These Are The New Cars With The Worst Fuel Economy
There are crossovers, sedans, sports cars and SUVs in the bottom 30 vehicles for fuel economy in the United States
Fuel economy can be an important selling point for those looking for a new vehicle. However, it doesn't influence every single purchase. Certain cars and trucks are worth being a little thirsty at the pump if they are worth the driving experience or money simply isn't an object for an owner. Sports cars certainly fit into this category, but they aren't alone.
Here are the 2024 model-year vehicles with a combined city/highway fuel economy of 15 miles per gallon or less, according to the Environment Protection Agency. I'll let you make the judgment if they are worth the poor fuel mileage.
Chevrolet Silverado 4WD ZR2 - 15 MPG
The list opens with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2. Don't get your hopes up. Pickup trucks are going to be a rare sight on this list. The venerable Chevy pickup truck is equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
GMC Sierra 4WD AT4X - 15 MPG
Next is the 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X, the Silverado ZR2's General Motors stablemate. The similarities between the two models included its fuel economy. However, it's the price to pay for 16,000 pounds of towing capacity.
Cadillac CT5 V - 15 MPG
The 2024 Cadillac CT5 V is the luxury brand's sporty performance sedan and its second-worst vehicle in terms of fuel economy. The supercharged V8 engine might make the 15 miles per gallon go down easier, like a spoonful of sugar after a dose of bitter medicine.
Audi RS Q8 - 15 MPG
The 2024 Audi RS Q8 is the German automaker's sole representative on this list. The performance crossover SUV can't reach 62 mph in under four seconds, and its aggressive bodywork makes the RS Q8 look like it hit that speed in three seconds.
Infiniti QX80 4WD - 15 MPG
The 2024 Infiniti QX80 could be the final year that this nameplate appears on this list. The SUV is slated for a new generation based on Infiniti's QX Monograph concept.
Porsche 911 GT3 - 15 MPG
The 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 is essentially a road-legal race car. Any driver buying this fine-tuned machine is probably more concerned with lap times than gallons of gasoline burned per 100 miles.
BMW X5 M Competition - 15 MPG
The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition is so performance-focused that it's only available in Competition spec. No, the hybrid turbocharged V8 engine isn't magically going to gain 5 MPG because it's a hybrid.
BMW X6 M Competition - 15 MPG
The 2024 BMW X6 M Competition joins its sibling on the list. Both share a mild hybrid powerplant that produces an automaker-claimed 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4WD - 15 MPG
The 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer won't have much company on the list with other Jeep stablemates as the Jeep Wagoneer is now only available with a six-cylinder engine.
Lamborghini Huracán - 15 MPG
The 2024 Lamborghini Huracán appears as it seemingly closes the door on its nameplate. The Italian supercar maker is no longer taking orders for the Huracán and is preparing a successor.
Nissan Armada 4WD - 15 MPG
The 2024 Nissan Armada has found its way onto the list. It's unsurprising, considering that the SUV is large enough to get itself wedged inside a 2,500-year-old redwood tree.
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - 15 MPG
The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 comes unabashedly storming into the worst fuel mileage contenders as the E-Ray prepares to become the first bowtie-badged hybrid sports car.
Bentley Continental GT - 15 MPG
The 2024 Bentley Continental GT fitted with a 12-cylinder engine makes an appearance as the British manufacturer prepares to end production of 12-cylinder engines later this year.
Bentley Flying Spur - 15 MPG
The 2024 Bentley Flying Spur is the second part of this 1-2 punch from the established British automaker. The Speed version features Bentley's W12 engine and can hit 207 mph.
Jeep Wrangler 4-Door 4WD - 14 MPG
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler is far more concerned with being as American as it can be. If you want a Jeep and are worried about fuel mileage, just buy a Wrangler 4xe.
Mercedes-Benz G550 - 14 MPG
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz G550 puts luxury and off-road capability at the forefront, with fuel economy third at best. Just watch how it can climb a 100-percent incline.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan - 14 MPG
The 2024 Rolls-Royce Cullinan might be the luxury automaker's only SUV, but it sits alongside two other Rolls-Royce models in terms of fuel economy.
Rolls-Royce Ghost - 14 MPG
The 2024 Rolls-Royce Ghost falls into the category of chauffeur's car. If someone can afford to own one, they can also afford to hire someone to drive it and keep its gas tank always topped off.
Rolls-Royce Phantom - 14 MPG
The 2024 Rolls-Royce Phantom rounds out the British brand's three-part barrage of lavish machinery. To be honest, you really cannot expect anything less from Rolls-Royce.
Ferrari 812 Competizione - 14 MPG
The 2024 Ferrari 812 Competizione returns us back to the driver's seat in dramatic fashion. The Ferrari is equipped with a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 that produces nearly 820 horsepower.
Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat AWD - 13 MPG
The 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is a breath of fresh American air. Who needs fuel economy when you can rip through the snow with 710 horsepower going through the wheels?
Ferrari Daytona SP3 - 13 MPG
The 2024 Ferrari Daytona SP3 is a traditional Italian supercar for a modern age. There's no hybrid system, just a naturally aspirated V12 engine. The Daytona SP3 is also styled to evoke the sports prototypes of the 1960s.
Cadillac Escalade V AWD - 13 MPG
The 2024 Cadillac Escalade V is the most powerful Cadillac ever built. The massive SUV can reach 60 mph from a standstill in under 4.4 seconds with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8.
Ferrari Purosangue - 12 MPG
The 2024 Ferrari Purosangue is an SUV with a V12 engine. Do I need to say more? The privilege of owning this absurd Ferrari will set you back $393,350.
Ram 1500 TRX 4WD - 12 MPG
The 2024 Ram 1500 TRX flew too close to the Sun. Stellantis' plans for an electric future just didn't have room for a pickup with over 700 hp and 12 MPG.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport - 9 MPG
The 2024 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is a monument to automotive excess, and it is absolutely glorious. While the version that the wealthy can order is electronically limited to 261 mph, Bugatti got a Chiron to crack 300 mph. I'd be far more concerned about tire wear than fuel economy at these speeds.
