This is the Morning Shift, our one-stop daily roundup of all the auto news that's actually important — all in one place at 9:00 AM. Or, you could spend all day waiting for other sites to parcel it out to you one story at a time. Isn't your time more important?
We're doing a special one this morning because of the Paris Motor Show, which you can follow along using this tagpage all morning. Here are some highlights.

3rd Gear: CAW Swallows Hard And Makes A Deal With Chrysler
The Globe and Mail says the Canadian Auto Workers reached a deal last night with Chrysler, completing contract talks with the three Detroit carmakers. The union says it won a commitment by Chrysler to maintain five shifts of workers and about 7,500 jobs at its two Canadian plants for the next four years. But there wasn't any promise by Chrysler to go above that level. The union had hoped Chrysler, which has three shifts in Windsor, Ontario, would add a second shift and a new paint shop in Brampton, which would guarantee the future of the plant. Fiat, which owns Chrysler, is reevaluating all its production plans in light of the financial crisis in Italy, its home market.
4th Gear: They're Going To Dig For Jimmy Hoffa Again
The Detroit Free Press reports that police will be taking soil samples in Roseville, Mich., tomorrow in the never-ending search for Jimmy Hoffa. There's no guarantee that Jimmy is actually buried there, but the state's Department of Environmental Quality used radar to check under a driveway last Friday, and found an "anomaly." So they're going to look further.
Hoffa disappeared in 1975 from the parking lot of the Machus Red Fox restaurant on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township. He had gone there for a reconciliation meeting with two Detroit mobsters, but was never seen again. Through the years, there have been hundreds of tips and theories about the disappearance of the former Teamsters president. Six years ago, the feds dug on a farm in Milford, Mich., not far from the General Motors proving ground. They didn't find Hoffa, but a bakery did a brisk business in Hoffa cupcakes featuring plastic hands sticking up out of chocolate "dirt."

Reverse: A Naval Disaster in Newfoundland
On this day in 1854, two ships collided in fog off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, killing 322 people. The naval disaster is one of the most deadly in seagoing history, and you really don't want to know all the grisly details. Suffice it to say there were some pretty awful experiences for those who got into lifeboats, and passengers killed an officer who tried to escape rather than go down with the ship. [History]
