Tesla Trouble, Bob Lutz Kills Cars And Big License Plate Feelings In This Week's News Roundup
A collection of our best posts of the week in news
Riding aboard the Steamship Authority ferry, a Tesla Cybertruck finally made its way to Nantucket last Thursday, and once it was off the boat, its owner wasted no time becoming enough of a nuisance that he earned his own local news article. Later the same day, the Nantucket Current published an article with the headline, “Cyber Stuck: First Tesla Cybertruck On Nantucket Has A Rough Day.” And, you know, we definitely get the frustration. - Collin Woodard Read More
A longtime Hertz customer with President’s Circle status was slapped with an unexpected $277.39 charge after returning the Tesla Model 3 that he rented during a weekend in Los Angeles. The renter was Joshua Lee, who selected the “skip the pump and save time” option on his reservation, so he wouldn’t have to worry about any additional refueling fees if Hertz gave him a gas-powered car. - Logan Carter Read More
After a social media video circulated showing the Tesla Cybertruck’s frunk chopping veggies, we went through a week of idiots posting videos online to prove that the frunk was actually safe. Only then we saw that it wasn’t after one owner damn near got his finger broken trying to prove a point. Now, just over a day after that same man was willing to put his toes in danger to prove…something. Now, there’s word that another part of the Cybertruck may be just as dangerous. - Lawrence Hodge Read More
The period of 2008 to 2009 was rough for Detroit’s Big 3 automakers. While Ford technically never filed for bankruptcy — though it did receive some of those sweet bailout funds — GM and Chrysler did. GM seemed to have it the worst, as the automaker had to get rid of four of its divisions to get its head above water. But how did GM choose those four divisions? A recent interview with former GM executive Bob Lutz shed some light on the automakers’ thinking at the time. - Lawrence Hodge Read More
If there’s one thing American car buyers love, it’s crossovers and SUVs. Sedans and wagons may still get the job done, but there’s just something we love about a little extra ride height, a taller seating position and the practicality of a liftgate. One downside, though, is that not only are new car prices still pretty high, but SUVs often don’t get the best gas mileage, either. - Collin Woodard Read More
As those famous rock n’ rollers once crooned, you can’t always get what you want. That’s especially true for personalized license plates. Plates can’t display something vulgar about a social movement group you don’t agree with, creepy or sexual references, drug or criminal references and, often, negative things about the current sitting president. An Ohio driver is suing the state, claiming his free speech is being violated. - Lawrence Hodge Read More
When the Ferrari Enzo supercar launched to the world back in 2002, the best that Pirelli could build was wrapped around the wheels of the angular icon. By today’s standards, after 22 years of development, those tires might as well be trash. For the Enzo to stand tall and deliver in 2024, it needs new shoes, and Pirelli is here to bring the party back to Enzo ownership. That’s right, a new P Zero Corsa System tire for the Ferrari Enzo has arrived in 245/35 R19 for the front and 345/35 R19 for the rear. According to Pirelli the new tire has modern materials and technologies, despite having “an identical appearance to the original.” - Bradley Brownell Read More

Headed into MotoGP weekend in Austin, Texas, I really didn’t know what to expect. Despite getting my first motorcycle at 19, it was still my first time attending a race. It was hot and very loud, which wasn’t much of a surprise. As it turns out, MotoGP still has grid girls, which was more of a surprise since I’d assumed that was over back when Formula 1 mostly did away with them. The biggest surprise, though, was just how quickly I became obsessed with King of the Baggers. I don’t care whether you like motorcycles or racing — if you’re not watching, you’re missing out. - Collin Woodard Read More
There must be something in the water, because speeding cars keep getting dangerously close to smashing through people’s homes. After a car in California served briefly as a plane before plowing through someone’s garage, a driver in Phoenix has now tried their hand at aerobatics this week. - Owen Bellwood Read More
