While 9ff have successfully topped the Bugatti Veyron's top speed of 252mph, they're still 1mph shy of the SSC Ultimate Aero TT's record. That must really sting. The 9ff GT9 will now go on sale, available for the bargain basement price of $854,000.
Just 20 GT9s will be made, so you'd better hurry if you're prepared to settle for second place. Based on a lengthened and chopped 911 GT3 body, the GT9 moves its twin-turbo 4.2-liter flat-six amidships. That engine now makes 987bhp and 711 lb/ft of torque. The entire car weighs in at just 1,326kg. Keepin all this in a straight line is only the driver's nerve and conservative use of the right foot, there's no traction or stability control. why does the back wheel look like it's printed on cardboard?
Is that a fake wheel - wheel cover on the rears? Weird. Kinda gives it a nascar feel. Looking in the rear of the 9ff GT9 is like looking into my computer minus 987hp.
@tenbeers - Just what I was thinking. For 854K I want real rear wheels
@csliwins: real rear wheels
I can't even say that in my head without stuttering.
Why didn't they just put Insight/Roadmaster-style rear wheel fairings on it? I bet that would have been good for an extra mph, at least.
Why .. why .. uhh, why are the back wheels pictures of wheels on the outside of the tire?
I was fully prepared to laud the lack of back-end body work, saying it looks 'the business,' but the wheel posters have completely confused me.
Wow, I was three minutes late!
maybe they were using a secret rear wheel and tire that they don't want the competition to know about.
great looking car, they really should have put the rear body panel back on before they took the shots though.
$854,000? /checks pockets
Just $853,914.58 shy. Damn. So close.
Want it
I don't care how fast it goes, it still looks like some horrible kit car. And they still want close to a million dollars for it? There must be a lot of people who have more money then brains.
I have to say that I really like the open back there. It's a nice reinterpretation of a design that has remained more or less static since 1964.
I'm thinking those real wheels are taking a clue from Ferrari's F1 car. Sealed for aero reasons, fed by the intake in the fender, but painted for the sponsor's benefit to look like a wheel.

@drewdrawsPooh: what the hell? It even showed the image in the preview, then it disappears when I post?
Arrrgh!
@Ash78:
also, moon discs ftw!
I previously said "want it",didn't look at the price,i'd rather have a house a cool car & a couple of projects & a holiday.But if anyone wants to buy me one,please get in touch.Thanks
@smalleyxb122: you carry $85?! what are you, a rockefeller?
For $800k I BETTER get matching front caps!
Forget the rear wheel spat, for $854,000 I want real chicken wire on the back to cover those mechanical bits.
- Boxboard wheel-covers
- Crooked stickers (on the passenger side door anyway)
- What looks to be a front spoiler and a rear diffuser made from plywood
Is this supposed to be a Chinese Veyron or something?
It really does look like a cheap kit car.
to me, this car seems to be a purpose built car. so it's probably a bad investment.
Upon his third week in Germany, Vincent had struck what he thought was gold in Stuttgart. An amazing girl named Porsche. But, she was no ordinary girl. Oh, no - she was one of only a few. That kind of girl that almost let's you see everything, but, nothing at the same time. Her curves were excellent and Vincent was growing excited with every frame of her that could be captured with his wide eyes. Vincent had spotted her on the street, dressed up in the most stunning blue skirt. The kind of skirt you know that has a purpose other than just drawing you in.
It was then when Vincent has mustered up the courage to approach Porsche in all her glory. But, as Vincent came closer to Porsche, the images his mind took in changed. He took a step back at what he saw. Porsche seemed as if she had inherited the dental characteristics of Charles, the Prince of Wales, and the wanting of Porsche soon faded.
Vincent then realized that Mercedes, even though she may have been a little boring, would have been a better girl for his travels. Porsche might have been more exciting, but he could not bring himself to approach a girl with such a major flaw.
And it's still 1 MPH short.
9FF = 9FuckingFailed!
For that kind of money I'd expect a car that didn't look like I built it myself in my garage from parts I bought at Home Depot.
Seriously unacceptable to have plywood-looking parts, or cardboard looking parts. This thing is FAIL to the max.
I don't think I would go through the exercise of building this thing and stop when I'm 1 mph short of the record. There has to be a way to squeeze out one more mph before you put it on sale. plus... she ugly.
The back looks like a VW dunebuggy, haven't we gone over this before?
My first thought when I saw the rear profile shot was, SS Cheby Malibu DE edition.
Going completely batshit IMSA/Lemans racer crazy on a 911 is really cool idea. However, Porsche already does that better than anybody. I think it's tough to justify the price premium on a Ruff, (though the Yellowbird was the business in it's day), but this thing?!?! Regardless of your net worth in the billions, why not buy a 956/962, a 935, or a new stock GT3 RSR, or better yet all of them for this price!!
I think everyone here is waiting for the "special" jalopnik yella version before buying one.
Koenigsegg?, 9FF?, Koenigsegg?, 9FF?, although it would be nice to have this dilemma, I can't imagine ever deciding on the 9FF. And I actually got to see an ultimate aero, it looks like a poor fit/finish kit car inside and out. I don't think either the 9FF or Aero should be considered a production car. You should have to produce 100 of them so the Veyron would still be on top!
@tenbeers: $854k and they're giving us hubcabs (I know, I know, it's an aero thing, but still).
yeah.... whats the streetability like? i cant imagine taking this thing down to the local 7-11.
one lousy mph? (green jacket, gold jacket...who gives a shit) going from 254 to 255 is not blasting a milestone. its just a lucky run. when a car hits 270, that will be headline-worthy.
and for a million skins, i'd like those front and side vents molded into the body, please.
This thing looks like an older Ford Taurus that has been crushed under the foot of the Jolly Green Giant. Good luck getting any six figure price.
@Miscellanea: And yea... paper is the new alloy.
The reason the rear wheels look fake is because they are. The car is propelled by a single, giant flywheel in the center of the car. Power comes from pulling a monstrous T-bar through the roof of the car.

@tenbeers: im glad someone else saw that, I thought I was going crazy.
@orangeroller:
actually evo magazine says it actually handles really really well

Anyone see the article on this in the latest 0-60 issue? I thought this car was quite badass. Hell, it's a stretched 911 body!
Cross sections of carbon fiber and other composites are "plywood" colored, not cross-hatched with clear coat. So the plywood look comes from using cutting edge materials. Not a big deal.
I wanna take Hennessey's 1500 HP beast for a ride.
