Weird Trucks, Cybertrucks And A Subaru Pretending To Be A Truck In This Week's Car Buying Roundup
A collection of our best posts of the week in car buying
I do not like Elon Musk or the Tesla Cybertruck, and if that’s news to you, I hope you enjoy your first day on Jalopnik. I won’t pretend the Model S isn’t the most important car of the 21st century because it just is, but Musk and the Cybertruck are hot garbage. The great thing about Jalopnik, though, is that we’ve never pretended to be objective. We share our personal opinions and admit we have biases. Consumer Reports, on the other hand, works to be as unbiased as possible. So what do they think of the Cybertruck? - Collin Woodard Read More
Nissan has been in a difficult spot for a while, but recently the automaker’s problems are even more pronounced. There are two key, but intertwined factors that are holding Nissan back, and I’m not sure any kind of investment or change in company direction can overcome them. - Tom McParland Read More
Last month we talked about the cars that lost the most value on the used market between August 2023 and August 2024. The economy is in a perilous place at the moment; inflation is rampant and wages haven’t kept up, but if you own any of the cars on the following list, at least your car has avoided depreciation for one year. Many of these vehicles have undergone recent model changes, or in some cases manufacturers have announced discontinuation of the models, which could explain the jump in average prices. The top spot, though, experienced an unfathomable average price increase of 21.4 percent, or $17,532 between August 2023 and August 2024. - Logan Carter Read More
The headline is hyperbole, granted. I’m 54 years old. I’ve had a lot of bad days. Was this one the worst? Impossible to say. Can I name a worse one off the top of my head? Now that I think about it, no! But we’ll get to that. - Peter Hughes Read More
Americans have a huge automotive debt problem right now. A new survey shows that 31 percent of American drivers who financed their car are underwater on their loans. The problem is even worse for EV owners – 46 percent of those folks have negative equity in their electric cars. Furthering the issue is the fact that over half of the drivers surveyed overestimated their vehicle’s value. Rough. - Andy Kalmowitz Read More

Are you a weird dork, but the prepper kind that lives in a bunker because they’re afraid of EMPs instead of the wannabe-future-tech kind who lives in the metaverse? Then boy howdy do I have the truck for you. This 2020 Terradyne Gurkha RPV is a ’roided up Ford F-550 Super Duty with real actual armor and real military purpose, but you can buy it and drive it on real American roads to show everyone how big your, um, ego is. It’s currently up for bidding on Cars & Bids, and it isn’t going to go cheaply. - Bradley Brownell Read More
Sometimes you come across things in the automotive world that you never thought you needed until you see it. Sometimes it’s as simple as the perfect wheel and color combo on a sports car. Other times it’s something absurd, like a V8 stuffed into a Miata. Or it can be the ultimate bro-mobile: A Subaru WRX STI pickup. - Lawrence Hodge Read More

A manual gearbox Camaro like today’s Nice Price or No Dice RS is rare to find, something the seller says as “nearly impossible.” Let’s see if this survivor Chevy has a few more unexpected pleasures up its sleeve and whether those might include its price. - Rob Emslie Read More
