These Are The Most Forgettable Cars On Sale In 2024

The automotive industry is one of those innovate or die industries, and these cars might be closer to the latter than the former

As we move further into the EV age and many automakers are working to reinvent themselves, some cars that are just a few years old are starting to look and feel like dinosaurs. I’m the type of weird where I can see virtually any car on the road and be able to identify it, yet there are many cars where I have to question whether they’re still in production or not.

Cars on this list range from entry-level crossovers and small cars to luxury SUVs and even a cargo van that’s basically as old as me. This list isn’t meant to be shady, it’s just cars that I forgot are still in production for 2024.

There are no shortage of three-row family SUVs on the market these days — even Land Rover’s Range Rover is now offering three rows of seats. The Discovery has a legendary history of being the ultimate off-roader, but ever since the LR4 became the Discovery again, it has faded into the background.

Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar was way ahead of the curve when it introduced the electric I-Pace in 2018, and its styling still looks modern. For whatever reason, the I-Pace has fallen off the radar for modern EV buyers despite a still-reasonable 246-mile range.

Subaru Legacy

Subaru’s had impressive and consistent growth recently, reporting over 18 consecutive months of sales growth, but the brand’s line of compelling crossovers get credit for that growth. The Legacy, Subaru’s midsize sedan, hasn’t made headlines in a while. It offers standard all-wheel drive, but buyers want crossovers and this old-fashioned family sedan is slowly fading away from buyers minds.

Ford Edge

The Ford Edge looks forgettable. This design looks like it has been on the market for ages, and there are many more compelling competitors. The Edge ST has plenty of power and looks more aggressive than other Edge models, but according to KBB, the final Ford Edge will be produced on April 26.

Chevrolet Malibu

The Malibu has always given me rental car vibes, and that doesn’t look like it will change any time soon. According to Automotive News, the Chevrolet Malibu will likely end production in 2025, so for now it looks like it will soldier on through 2024. There are several other cars in this segment that are smarter buys, but if you need a sizeable car at a good price, maybe try lowballing your local Chevy dealer on a Malibu.

Chevrolet Express

The Express van is less than one year younger than me. Its last redesign was in 1996, and Chevy is still producing new versions of that same design today, 28 years later. Given that this van is primarily intended for commercial or fleet use, it gets a small excuse for its lack of updates, but Ford completely reinvigorated its van business with the introduction of the full-size Transit in 2015. Somehow the Express is still available new, but there are other, newer vans that make more sense.

Infiniti seems to be in the midst of an identity crisis. Following the resounding success of the G35 and G37, Infiniti kind of fell off the map. The Q50 was introduced in 2014 and has not had significant enough updates to keep it competitive with the likes of the BMW 3 Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class. At least its sister the Q60 coupe is blessed with dramatic styling; unfortunately the Q50 is a hard sell in 2024.

Nissan Sentra

The current Nissan Sentra was only introduced four years ago, but it has fallen into the background in my mind. Honda’s new Civic, Hyundai’s new Elantra, and Nissan’s own crossovers have stolen the Sentra’s spotlight. It is still a good looking little car, but it’s just not compelling enough.

Nissan Titan

The Nissan Titan hasn’t excited anyone in a long time. Building a full-size pickup to compete with the seemingly unstoppable Ford F-Series, Ram’s comfortable 1500 and General Motors’ fan favorite trucks is a seriously tall order. The Titan should have what it takes to compete with the big boys, but it just doesn’t. Keep an eye out for good deals on Titans, though! The Titan is set to end production this summer.

The world of car lovers collectively rolled their eyes when BMW launched the 2 Series Gran Coupe. It isn’t a bad car, it is just such a significant departure from the things that enthusiasts once loved about BMWs. It’s a very homely looking little machine that would look more correct with a Corolla badge on the back than a BMW roundel.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Mitsubishi is in a weird spot. Not much is said about the brand aside from its Outlander PHEV, which sells admirably. Slapping the Eclipse name on an entry-level coupe-style crossover that has virtually zero sporty characteristics was a mistake. The Eclipse was always a dramatically styled sporty coupe, but the Eclipse Cross is nothing of the sort, and fades into the scenery of the entry level crossover segment.

Lincoln Corsair

I am confused by Lincoln. I have loved its design language since the Zephyr came out in the early 2000s, and I love the way its modern cars look, but they just don’t sell. The Corsair even has a badass name, but nothing saves this Ford Escape–based crossover from fading into obscurity. I really hope Lincoln is able to come out of this slump because I really like its elegant, Art Deco vibes.

Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue is so darn cute; I love the way it looks. Entry-level subcompact crossovers don’t get talked about very much, and that certainly goes for the Venue. It effectively replaced the Accent as the cheapest Hyundai, going for an SUV body style instead of a normal sedan or hatchback. I would definitely buy one of these over a Nissan Kicks, but I see way more Kicks’ on the road than Venues.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is an incredibly stylish small SUV that launched with radical two-door coupe and two-door convertible models in its first generation. The current Evoque is still good looking, but there are many smarter compact luxury SUVs.

Lexus is known for its incredibly agreeable and reliable cars, so when the RC came along as a sporty coupe, I was surprised. When the RC was introduced, Lexus was still high off the IS F, but the RC was never quite as compelling as the BMW M4 or Mercedes-AMG C63. Sadly the F Sport trim of the 2024 Lexus RC 350 doesn’t include any additional power over the regular RC 350, but the fiery RC F still exists.

Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass is another one that just screams “rental car.” The Compass is confusing since both it and the Jeep Cherokee are mid-size crossovers, and the Cherokee is slightly more spacious. I was honestly surprised to see the Compass is still available for 2024, which isn’t a good sign.
