Three Japanese Dream Cars Are Being Auctioned At Pebble Beach

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is where some of the finest European and American vintage cars are showcased and auctioned to the world's elite. But what if you're a fan of cars from the Land of the Rising Sun? If so, you're in luck this year.

Hemmings reports that at two different Pebble Beach auctions in August, three incredible Japanese performance cars will be up for grabs: a 1967 Toyota 2000GT, a 1967 Mazda Cosmo and a 1972 Nissan KPGC10 Skyline 2000GT-R.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go rob some banks.

The "Hakosuka" Skyline is being auctioned with no reserve by RM Auctions, and Hemmings expects it to go for between $125,000 and $175,000. It's one of just under 1,200 2000GT-Rs ever built; the car was never sold in the U.S. (Curiously, it's right-hand drive but has a Datsun steering wheel. What's up with that?) The 2.0-liter, inline six-powered Skyline was a racing legend in its day.

The other two cars are being auctioned by Gooding & Company. The Toyota 2000GT, an extremely rare vehicle, could fetch as much as $1.3 million, while the rotary-powered Mazda Cosmo is expected to go for significantly less at a predicted $200,000 to $250,000.

Gooding is also auctioning this 1980 Toyota FJ40 Land Crusier that I wouldn't kick out of my garage under any circumstances.

As Hemmings noted in their post, Japanese cars haven't always been considered desirable among the jet-setting Pebble crowd, but that's starting to change, perhaps as they become a little more well-known outside of their home countries.

It will be very interesting to see how much these three cars go for in August. If I don't steal them first, of course. I mean, why stop at bank robbery, right?
