The Volvo Concept XC Coupe And Its Orange Bits Are Beautiful

The Volvo Concept XC Coupe is pretty important for the only Swedish car company currently producing cars in any meaningful quality. Good thing it's so very Swedish, if you ignore the Chinese funding.

Joking aside, it's a fantastic-looking thing. It may not be svelte like the Concept Coupe, but it's great for a crossover-type vehicle. Traditional Volvo details like the broad shoulders have been delightfully reinterpreted here. Seriously, Volvo, just make it.

Other things that absolutely must make it into production are the orange inserts in the skid plates and wheels. Why? Because orange inserts, that's why.

Volvo confirmed the 2015 XC90 will be real later this year and feature that plug-in hybrid option mated to their T6 Drive-E engine that makes 302 horses. They're pegging the total output at close to 400 hp, so that should be fun. Responsible fun, of course.

The XC Coupe is a fantastic indicator that the XC90 will look good. It bodes well for the future Volvo crossovers and wagons. But what it should really signal is some curvy hatch in Volvo's future. Because even though the C30 didn't work out so well, at least it looked beautiful.

Just don't forget the orange parts, OK?
