What world do we live in where the uber-rich can’t even turn to the Mercedes S-Class cabriolet for the ultimate example of luxurious, roofless driving? A world where Maybach now makes an even better, even more luxurious version of every range-topping Mercedes, like the new S 650 Cabriolet: the most expensive way to hate rain.
The new Maybach S 650 is already an early darling of the LA Auto Show, showing off a whole bunch of classy class in a manner only Maybach knows how.
The S 650 will be a limited run of just 300 cabriolets, with each getting special individual lettering on the cupholders to show you and your Big Gulp just how special and rich you are.
In the headlights are Swarovski crystals, and giant dish-like 20-inch wheels plant the land yacht just far enough above the peasant-ass S-Class cabriolet.
Under the hood is the same 6.0 liter V12 out of the Mercedes-AMG S65, with 620 horsepower, around 737 lb-ft of torque and a top speed limited to 155 miles per hour. It’ll get you to 60 in 4.1 seconds with a 7G-Tronic transmission on the same cloudy air suspension setup found across the S-Class range.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but you can bet your denim-laden butt it’s well above the $130,000 or more asking price for the normal S-Class cabriolet.
