The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is already a pretty wild muscle car, with a supercharged 6.2-liter 640 horsepower V8 that must sound like Satan’s metal concert. And now, since you definitely want to blast your ears even further with orgiastic fury, Chevy’s lopped the roof off.

Because muscle cars are an American tradition at this point, you can always lash those 640 horses to the car with the traditional option, a six-speed manual. But because we live in the future now, you also get the option of a 10 (ten!)-speed automatic transmission, as you do in the regular Camaro ZL1.


Ostensibly, many of those 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 gears are to help improve fuel economy, in your 640-horsepower V8.

Like the hardtop model, it’s 200-pounds lighter than its ZL1 convertible predecessor, despite having 60 more horsepower and 80 more pound-feet of torque.


Of course, to be able to handle it all, it’s got GM’s positively sublime magnetic ride suspension. Just as well, it’s also got Brembo brakes with positively enormous front rotors at over 15 inches in diameter, which are already larger than the little shopping cart wheels you had on your first car.

And to make sure you drive like a total nut, it’s got an electronic limited-slip differential, and, of course, launch control.

Because yeah you want launch control. What the hell sort of question is that?
