Tesla Is Getting Un-Sexier By The Minute, Plans Solar Roof

Tesla's Elon Musk has now promised to get his business in on hot market of integrated roof-mounted solar panels. Damn. Tesla is getting un-sexier by the minute.

The move into the solar-roof market comes out of Tesla's soon-to-be-completely-solidified relationship with SolarCity. Musk was in on a quarterly earnings conference call for SolarCity today, which sort of makes sense since these quarterly earnings calls are sort of like hangouts between Tesla and all of its business reporter friends.

Musk said that around the same time Tesla's merger with SolarCity is completed, the company would come out with two new products, including a fully integrated solar roof. Here's exactly what Musk said, as reported by Electrek:

"It's a solar roof, as opposed to modules on a roof."

SolarCity's CEO affirmed that this is the case, noting that these are not solar panels mounted on a roof, something SolarCity already does, but rather "it is the roof."

Tesla used to be a company that made super sedans from the space rockets guy. Now it's a company that makes minivans from a dude selling solar roofs to people who still clip their phones on their belts.

Real cool, Elon. Real cool.
