Team USA just played one hell of a match against Ghana in the World Cup. So Delta Airlines paid homage to these wonderful athletes with a Statue of Liberty and a giraffe.
Obviously Lady Liberty represents America, but Delta just walked into that prickly zone of reducing Africa, a continent of more than a billion people, to simply animals. If you've taken a civics class in the last 15 years, you might be familiar with a similar situation where AT&T touted international calling to Africa with a monkey on the phone. (There were actual humans for the other continent.)
UPDATE: Delta removed the tweet around 9:30 p.m.
UPDATE 2: Everyone on Twitter seems to be enjoying this, especially the part about Ghana not having giraffes:
First they lose to us, then we rub the fact that they have no giraffes in their face? Not cool.

We're sorry for our choice of photo in our previous tweet. Best of luck to all teams.
