Known as the "Car Kabob" or the "Eight Car Pileup," the impaled-car sculpture at a shopping mall in Berwyn, Illinois, has brought joy to millions (well, at least hundreds). And now, like so many good things in life, it's slated for annihilation in the name of "progress." Fight the power!

I'm pretty sure that every available square foot of land in this country will be replaced with a Walgreens sooner or later.
I've only seen it in movies, like Wayne's World.
Doesn't that make it famous enough?
I haven't yet seen this wonderful "sculpture" personally. I guess I won't either.
@PeteJäyhawk™: Seeing a popular family-owned restaurant in my town being replaced by a Walgreens, across the street from a CVS, makes me believe that fact.
It's like that old Simpsons episode..."sorry kid, in five minutes this is gonna be a Starbucks."
Bastards!
What's next, The Dells? The Maiden Corn Palace?
Why don't they pave The House on the Rock while they're at it?!
There's an old Tower Records building here about the size of a Wal-Mart that has a "Coming soon: Walgreens" sign on it, which makes it quite possibly the world's largest Walgreens.
Why not stick it in Metro Detroit. Would look nice beside the Uniroyal on 94.
My grandmother lived off of Cermak so the car spindle was a frequent childhood memory. The condition of most cars currently on Berwyn streets make these eight look pristine.
I've got dibbs on the 2002!!!
I lived off Cermack too when I was a little one. I totally agree about the condition of the cars there. I remember a great herd of rusty Ford Mavericks well into the late 80s. Too bad about the spike, they already ditched the trash sculpture for something bland. At least that Pinto's still on the wall.
@Seth L: Paving over the town of Wisconsin Dells wouldn't be such a bad thing. Paving over the actual Dells of the Wisconsin River might prove difficult.

You and me, Thunderdome. Two men enter, one man leave!
Walgreen's is officially the devil. They tore down The Kahiki, which was an original 50's Polynesian Supper Club here in Columbus, Ohio of all places. The street it was on had several vacant lots, a closed Pizza Hut, etc, but no - they had to have the Kahiki location. I blame the owner as much as Walgreen's, but he had a heart attack, so it's one down, one to go. I personally have nothing but hatred (well, at least spite) for the company. Down with Walgreen's!!
They couldn't even get me through their door with a free $50 gift card offer! I'd take a 50% stake in the company, though, because then I could liquidate it.
I smell a boycott coming on...
Hey, that VW bug could be worth $10k or more if properly restored.. Probably worth double that since the owner could claim "this was part of a famous sculpture for 30 years"
All kidding aside, I'm pretty sure that's an eyesore for the town.. I'm sure they're trying to fancy up the town (they are next to cicero after all).
That's a lot of bird doodie, with nothing but the rain to wash it away. I bet no one gets up there with a ladder or cherry-bucket to pressure-wash everything regularly.
they going to take down the 50 year old sign in the background, too?
That's the nice thing about Europe - they've got buildings that are 100's if not 1000's of years old. Here in 'murica, we tear it down after 20 years in the name o fprogress. I'm surprised anyone here has any concept of what history actually is...
@Gawker Media Presents: PeteJäyhawk™:
Walgreens or Walmart will find a way.
I agree, Walgreens is the Devil. This makes me soooo angry. There is already a Walgreens in that shopping center, and the least they could do is move it, they have the money.
