See, Edmunds InsideLine is nice — they're totally being friendly with us in the automotive blogosphere today on the new 2009 Nissan GT-R. They're even letting us have a couple of photos to show all of us GT-R-needy auto fan-boys over here. This is of course, unlike some people we know. [via Edmunds Inside Line]

Well, call me weird but I miss the "racoon" face of the prototypes.
But I'm excited for those of us that can afford this car...
Either Edmunds takes better pictures, or it's growing on me. I'm starting to like it.
I still can't believe this car doesn't have a clutch. I see that travesty in the center console where the stick should be, but what's that in the pic that shows the pedals? And nothing I've been able to read about this car mentions the transmission. if it's true, they won't sell one here in Spain.
I think it's a case of the more HP it has, the uglier the styling.
@mwood10: I feel the opposite, but the pics are better...
@akirachan: Yep, I actually thought the car was gonna look like it did in GT4. Nice.
That interior! Jeep Cherokee crossed with Landrover Discovery? No suprise and delight here, guys....
Not to mince words here, guys, but who gives a *fuck* what it looks like as long as it *goes* like the last GT-R did?
@mwood10: I think these are press photos no?
The headlights look vaguely like the last gen Celica... but it also has the flava of the G37... either way you put it, it's one hot Nissan Skyline!
Is that a huge "P" for park in the gauge cluster?
Can anyone tell me the POINT of this car?
@WMeredith: People who buy TVRs, Ferarris, Maseratis, Plymouth Roadrunners, '70 GTOs, Corvettes, Vipers, etc. etc. etc.
I believe in form following fuction as much as the next guy, but urely, for $80k a car which looks nice as well as going well is a reasonable expectation?
These are some beautiful pictures. It's nice to see that the GT-R is not really a frilly sports car but all business.
@Trevor: Cheap Speed.
Think Lotus with more technology AND weight and you're close.
So when I'm riding in back, I have to share my cup holder with whomever is riding next to me? What a bunch of crap. Pass.
Oh fuck another Nissan/Infiniti shitbox with that laughable V6 exhaust drone.
The dash is so...utilitarian. I kinda like it.
The front end is... interesting. The rear end is absolutely scrumptious though.
0-60 < 4 is certainly supercar territory, but the Nissan badge means it's a competitor to the Corvette--maybe even RS4/M3--certainly not the 911 Turbo. As such, I'd hope it would come in more on the order of $60k...$80k just sounds insane.
I'm sorry Colonel35 but 3.5 seconds isn't supercar territory, it's flat neck and neck with the Enzo, Carreara GT and Murciliago. And given the previous track record of the car (anyone remotely familiar will recall the auto journalists in skyline gt-rs lapping Porsche test driver in yet to be released 911) will be quite cogent enough to put two and two together (along with that substantially sub 8:00 'ring time). This car has supercar performance, it will be compared against the big guns around the world, and the US audience will be the only to diminish it and relegate it to corvette z06 competition.
I was skeptical when the numbers were leaked, and still am... but it makes sense if you think about it long enough (in re: to price and the development of it's blown six… it still bottles the mind though).

@Colonel35: RS4's and M3's should get stomped on by the GT-R.
Considering the lengths Nissan goes through to make their cars controllable at their handling limits and in adverse weather conditions, I'd imagine the new GT-R will in fact run with a 911 Turbo on a race track.
It may be a tick behind on the drag strip, but it won't come as any surprise to true car aficionado's that the next GT-R is just as capable as the latest Porsche 911 Turbo. Considering that is exactly how it has played out over the past decade, I don't see why it would change now.
America, just wait until you hear about all the praises GT-R's get.
Remember when the WRX and EVO finally came here?
Remember all the nay-sayers off the bat?
Where are they now?
Yay! Edmunds!
I saw those pictures prior to knowing of the autoweek release and thought it was another warmed over GT-R spyshot.
Boo CGarison for not being on the ball.
GTR... Pretty neat.
No thanks.
Are those performance gauges I see on the dash LCD screen? Interesting... Does that mean it's coming with it's very own integrated g-tech system? It'd be pretty sweet if you could tune it through the integrated dash system.
Anyway, I really want to hate this car. Probably because, like most other cars I despise, I can't afford it. But man, I'd love to get my hands on one to see what it can do. You know?
Anyway, I'll reserve all judgement until I (a)See one in person. (b) Drive one myself. (c) Get completely toasted as though I'm standing still by this, which is a Nissan!?
I'll take mine in black, please?
Has the price tag been confirmed? I've got 50K stuck in my head, but that could be off on either side for all I know.
Basically the Japanese Dodge Viper.
Not universally appealing looks (I like both), crappy interior, world-beating performance at an unbelievable price.
Actually, I've always considered Nissan roughly equivalent to Dodge...sort of 3rd place in their respective big 3.
@Trevor: Please go back to the consumerist.
That back seat is pointless. Make this thing a 2-seater and lighten the load of the 2+2 and it might have been able to go faster!
I *heart* this car, even with the twin clutch auto.
I just want to know, what is that rectangular slot on the side of the rear by the tailamp? Is Nissan's technology tour de force using VW semaphores?
Didnt we already already have this setup 15 years ago? a very heavy all-wheel drive twin turbo V6? Yes, It was known as the 3000gt/Stealth.
@SRekauqh: Haha, I don't think dropping 60 lbs. is gonna make such a big difference in a 3400 lb. car.
Not to mention 2+2's drop you insurance compared to 2 seaters, just like how wagons drop your insurance compared to sedans.
And those are perfect seats for short chicks.
1. Anyone that would pay over $60k for a Nissan is insane, regardless of performance.
2. The design isn't as boring and soulless as 99.99999% of all other Japanese cars these days, but still doesn't approach the average German sports coupe or even the Corvette.
3. They'll sell more than a few of them to the affluent asian rice-rocket tuner set, and it'll develop a cult following like the 280Z, 300Z and Supra, but never really take off as a production car.
4. Fifteen year old suburban kids with no taste or frame of reference will also love them (especially in colors like yellow or neon green), but they're not the ones who buy cars.
@Evander: yeah but a Lotus at least LOOKS good
@Mad_Science: Kiss my consumerass- I agree Nissan is the Dodge of the big Japanese 3...crappy quality, laughable design and really no reason for existence. Whoever is gonna pay the bux for this one should be smacked with an anti-roll bar.
@Mad_Science: That makes sense.
After hating the concepts, this has really grown on me, that profile just looks mean.
Damn, that's alot of green not to be able to excersice my left leg. As much as I love the technology, no thanks. I'll take an RS4 Avant and a downpayment on a house instead.
What's the deal with that big-mouth grille? First Audi and now Mitsubishi ... it's the new Bangle butt. Nice, big trunk, and I love that it looks like the two rear passengers have to share a cupholder because it was apparently too much trouble to put a second one next to it!
But the interior is a hot mess. The air vents on the left are at a different level than the ones for the driver, and we get a mashup of circular, square, and toggle switches. Back to design school! But if goes like they say it does, who cares.
@Atelier:
You wouldn't pay more than 60K for a Nissan, but you would for an Infiniti??? or Lexus??? Stupid overgeneralization, thank you.
The price range of this car is slated to be in the high 60k to 80k. This is not a mainstream production car range, but small niche market sport car range. These aren't going to sell like camrys.
The exterior is utterly fantastic, like nothing else. The interior is, er, ghastly. Not just bad, but reeallly bad.
Hot hot hot...do want!
I'm not going to defend the exterior styling, and sure people get uncomfortable with spending that much money on cars made outside of Europe, but man, that cockpit shot, I could spend the rest of my life in there. Buy a 50 pack of white t-shirts and just deliver pizza for all eternity. This thing is SO a Skyline, and while all the confusion suprises me, I guess it explains why we've had to wait nearly 'til the end of cars to get one.
Makes the Aztek look like the zenith of Bauhaus design.
THAT IS ONE UGLY CAR.
Makes me not want to like cars anymore. Honestly.
NO A pillar boost gauges; Nissan obviously doesn't know their audience.
@Trevor: I'll agree with you on the (exterior) design part. I used to drive a 3rd -gen Maxima SE, and that form factor (4-door sports car, anyone?) was perfect compared to the bloated thing we get today. And maybe Nissan is last in the big 3, but when it comes to quality, that VQ engine has still got to be the best V6 out there, even after 13 years - and it hasn't had any of the problems like sludge on Toyota's 1MZ-FE.
@5050mix:
They're using the VR engine out of their old Le Mans race car, not the VQ... supposedly... We know it's also being worked on by Cosworth... So... it will probably sound like the fire-spitting monster it ought to, not like a car that will give you a headache after twenty miles.
Also: Jeeeeeeesus God, 3.5 0-60?? With 4wd?
@Eric Lai: I'll give you that, that VQ engine is a great design
Very nice. I kinda dig the function over form look of the interior. It looks hard.
I hope this car inspires Honda\Acura to build a completely new NSX with AWD.
I am seriously sick and tired of car companies designing there cars "blandly" to appeal to a greater audience. I really had high hopes for both this and the WRX/STi but they both fall short. Except for the front I think the car is great looking. The rear is aggressive and the side is sleek and streamlined. But the front just does not fit with the rest of the car and just looks out of place. To me how the car drives is about 75% of the car but the performance of this car can not save it's looks.
Nissan and Subaru you are on notice. Like Clarkson said, "what is the point of owning an M6 if you have to back it up into every parking spot so that no one will see the rear end?"
first, the audi lost its center section of nose.... then the evo x had similar rhinoplasty.... and now this.... tomorrow, i spray the front section of my subaru flat black. gotta keep up with the jonses you know...
Another floppy-paddle sportscar. Although I love the looks and performance, what has happened to the good old manual transmission?? Everyone from Bugatti on downwards are going the floppy-paddle route. The ability to drive a manual car is now becomming a loss art. Unless Nissan makes the new GTR with a manual transmission, I think I will opt for an R33 or R32 Skyline instead.
Run it is Godzilla!
