Artega GT Coming in 2008

It looks like a lost cousin of the Porsche Cayman, though it's powered by a Volkswagen V6. It's the Artega GT, a star of the Geneva auto show this past March. Word is it's due for market release. The Artega was designed by Henrik Fisker, who penned the Aston Martin DB9 and in 2005 formed a company that rebodies BMW 6-Series and Mercedes SL models as super-high-end luxury cars under the Fisker marque. Now, German magazine Automobilwoche reports sales of the Artega GT, by German auto supplier Paragon, will commence in summer of 2008. Weighing under 2500 pounds and powered by VW's 3.6-liter FSI V6, the cars will get from zero to 60 in around five seconds. The first production run will of 500 units, each selling for 75,000 Euro, or around $103,000. [Automobilwoche via World Car Fans]

  • The Artega is NOT a Fisker product. He only penned the design. The Artega is a halo product for Paragon, a german system supplier for the automotive industry. In contrast to many makeshift sportscar projects, this actually looks like a serious effort. They were able to recruit Karl-Heinz Kalbfell, the former head of BMW M, Rolls-Royce and Maserati as main advisor. Check out their homepage (www.artega.de) it looks quite impressive.

  • @Vega: I meant product of, as in "from his head." Good point of clarification.

  • Annnnnd....another nice looking car that I'll never be able to afford. I like it though.

  • ...and it will have a DSG gearbox. Did you hear that, Farago? A DSG box!

  • I may be in the minority
but this car really isn't that great looking to me
    it borders on being boring
it doesn't scream exotic to me it almost looks like something Toyota would have made
which is a shame I like Fisker's work
    especially the DB9
but maybe I have been an Ian Callum the whole time

  • Coupe, 0-60 under 5 seconds, engine sourced from major manufacturer...
Am I the only one that doesn't get excited about projects like this anymore?

  • I do but I would be more apt for something like a Noble
heck theres alot of tasty treats out there with engines from makor suppliers
    Pagani, McLaren F1..etc..
I just can't get past the bumpy looks of this car
its looks like a frog with warts

  • I think it's a good looking beast, even if it does look like a Ferrari 360 in a funhouse mirror...

  • When I look at it, I see a mashup of all kinds of lines, and ideas from other production cars. The front screams Carrera GT, the roof line screams 350Z, the intakes scream 360 Modena. Then, there's the performance, or lack thereof. For MUCH less money, I can get an STI with AWD, and a faster 0-60. It may lack the "curb appeal", but I bet it more than makes up for that in reliability.

  • @KVHnik:

Exactly what I was thinking. Great, another pretty car I'll never get to have. Thank goodness for Lotus and them giving the working class man a chance at an exotic.

  • Okay, Frankrizzo. Maybe they are not looking for buyers who would a) consider an STI an alternative to a light, midengined sportscar and b) judge sportscars only by their 0-60 times. Considering 300hp for a car this light "lack of performance" isn't the most insightful comment. Oh, and nice call on the reliability of a car that has not even been built yet.

  • Vega, for the record, I'm a road racer. I own both a Porsche Boxster, and a Mazda Miata. Neither of which are 0-60 monters. Both are designed for power WITH handling, well in the Miata's case that might be JUST handling. But I digress.

So, I already own a mid-engined sportscar. Since I think I've covered the issue of JUST judging it by 0-60 times, let me say this. For a car THAT expensive, it should have awe inspiring performance, else, you just have another GT Cruiser, and that's a lot of money for a 2 seat GT Cruiser.

Now, as for reliability for an unbuilt car, it's got VW parts in it. VWs are inherently unreliable, thereby causing me to say that the VW parts on this car will continue to be their selves, and will be unreliable.

  • Looks good.........But a 100k for VW V6????
No W8-W10-W12 or any W engine?? BOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • I think the side profile is awesome. $100k is expensive in some market niches, cheap in others; comparing it to an STI is pretty silly.

  • In my own defense, I was comparing ONLY 0-60 times. No statements about looks, 2 door vs. 4 door, swoopy lines to boxy lines, mid-engined sports minded car to 4 door ass haulin' boy racer-mobile.

I was ONLY comparing the 0-60 times.

Time vs. money if you will. For $100K, I want MUCH faster than that. I'd think of it as a modern day NSX. Not overly fast, but nice looking, and expensive. (With probably worse build quality).

I'm honestly surprised that no one has pointed out that you could get a mustang, or an old GM pony car for MUCH less money than an STI, and still be under the 5 second 0-60.

  • Front end looks too much like an eclipse
