The widowmaker is back, and spies say it's a symphony on wheels. The new-generation Porsche GT2, spotted on the N rburgring recently, is the last to arrive (and most insane) of the 997-generation 911s. The rear-drive, weight-reducted beast — carbon fiber et. al. — is said to produce in the neighborhood of 500 hp. Who needs tuning shops when all that craziness rolls right out of the new Porsche Motorsports center in Weissach. Why, indeed.

I like how with the new 911s as the price goes up, the fin looks worse and worse.
Now that BMW's the "Company of Ideas", I suppose they've forfeited their right to the phrase "ultimate driving machine", that's now being used to describe a Porsche...that earns a healthy dose of, Ach, Du Scheisse/ Du, meine Gute!
As per Mr. Lieberman's comment, I can only agree. What in the hell has possessed the German carmaking elite? Horrid wings, companies of ideas, free (poorly-made) guitars, Lambo's that catch fire...
Homework assignments!
VW Designers: Look at pictures of the Mk IV models and figure out where you went wrong with the new generation
BMW Designers: Everyone walks around for the next week with pictures of the E36 M3 taped/stapled to their foreheads until you guys come up with a sleek, RWD coupe with a respectable power-to-weight ration.
Porsche: You guys remember when hans Stück said he wasn't going to race Porsches anymore because they were beginning to look like "girlie cars"? The spoiler doesn't have to be the sole attention-grabbing part of the car. It's a 911 for cryin' out loud. You've got one of the sexiest, most easily-recognizable profiles out there. It's not a damned EVO IX.
Mercedes: Do I even know you? Quit making rubbish gangsta- and athlete carraiges and go back to producing stuff the likes of which civilized people will actually lust after, instead of merely pointing and laughing.
Audi: Any reason for the S8? Does the lower power rating mean it's any safer (from a workmanship standpoint) than the Lambo's from which it's decended? With your LeMans success we expect more from you. "Your wife's car" ain't gonna cut it.
I'll leave my soapbox here for the next guy...
Yeah!
And another thing, yeah!
As if I need to be egged on... Thanks for the support, Herr Lieberman (I get nervous about a public lynching if I get all familiar and call you "Jonny")
I miss the 959 -- what a gorgeous spoiler that was!!!
My guess is that Porsche feels the need to install an easily-spotted feature for the Porschefiles to identify specific models. On a track, since there is little chance you will see the little "GT2" moniker on the rear, it's nice to be able to identify car that just lapped you.
I agree that the larger the spoiler, the uglier it is. However, if you can afford the GT2, you can probably afford to install a new custom carbon spoiler made to your specifications.
You don't get the Germans at all, do you? It has a wing like that because that's the most efficient wing they could design. They have their systems!
