The story of the BMW X1 baby SUV started with a report in Germany's AutoBild, and recently culminated in an announcement of confirmation from BMW boss Norbert Reithofer. Now, just as with the X6, a strange test mule is afoot. Spies say this car, a variant of BMW's "squareface" testers of models' past, is a dummy for the 2010 X1's chassis, which it will share with a similar Mini model. Or it could mean BMW's taking on the Honda Element for the "looks like a milk truck" utility subgenre. No, things could never get that interesting. [World Car Fans]

Lol! Wonderful! Bring it out as is!
I bet that Dick over at Audi will put it down as a chick utility vehicle.
"Flame Surfacing" is headed in a fascinating new direction!
That's a production ready vehicle for the cute-ute segment; just look at the smiley face grille and lights, what a stunning detail!
Maybe BMW is bringing back the Divco brand?
Lol...Greatest mule ever!
Judging by the twin fat pipes this mule's packing the N54 3.0 turbo motor.
Bangle got canned and nobody reported on it?
love the fender flares, very reminiscent of BMW's rich DTM heritage.

It would seem they've finally gone back to the old German "function over form."
P.S.: I must have those wheels!
It's sort of the Cute Ute version of the old Lambo SUV. Keep it just the way it is!

@FreeMan: No, Bangle's been reading our comments and has been taking them very, very personally.
