Turbos of the Past's Future: The Rover Jet-1

Decades before an auto journalist first put the words "turbo lag" to paper, or a street racer ever glanced at a boost gauge between stoplights, Rover created one of the first automotive applications of the jet turbine, the Jet-1. The year was 1950, and jet engines were transforming the possibilities of military aircraft and, soon enough, commercial aviation. Nonetheless, they burned hotter than Mt. St. Helens, got poor gas mileage and were no good at low speeds — and were later relegated to boosting the output of tuner Hondas.
