Why yes, you are looking at the schnoz of a 1965 Toyota Sports 800. Thanks for asking. And Japan Week marches on here at the Jalop House of Noodle Brains. Even though Spin, Ray and Ben are in Tokyo as we type, they'll be working the Auto Show, with no time to go and document every car in the Toyota museum. But fear not gentle readers! One of you (Harumph to be exact) went and did the work for us. Last year. But as fate would have it, just got around to posting his pictures now. That's right, laziness and synchronicity often go hand in hand. Be sure to click over to Harumph's site to check all the hot Japanese metal. Yes, there's a 2000GT. A white one. [science bastards]

dig the drip pan!
Sports 800 really does look like a 2000GT foetus.
I'm going to Tokyo Show early Nov, do you guys have on Jalopnik Tshirts or something? We should have a drink.
@abgwin: Just part of the Japanese effort to give their sports cars some British affectation.
Hooray for Harumph!
Thanks dude. :)
this is like my most favorite toyota ever, and it had a taga top even before the 911's.
@Rust-MyEnemy: You will know them by their DAF underoos.
@Sharky: Eeew. And, I guess, the faint whiff of Bondo and 10w40...
@ThnderbltDoherty: makes me wonder who gets to change the pans at the VW museum! what a great docent job when one retires...
@abgwin: I don't see any drips! WHAAHAPPENN?
At the British sports car museum, a team of 36 drip pan changers works around the clock to ensure that the endless stream of oil from undercar....
@Chuck U. Farlie: That just means it's time for a refill.
I've never seen this vehicle before.
I like it in a "Hey look at this!" kinda way.
Thanks Jalops! Reach one... Teach one. I dun seen sumthin' new today!
Great museum. I remember many of these vehicles crushed by Godzilla, Ghidorah, Mothra, Varan, Gamera, Rodan....
Nice, Harumph -- these are awesome pics!
If I ever take a trip over to Japan, this will be on my list. The cars are beautiful...
Harumph: Bless you. Two questions:
1)How cool are the chrome tailight surrounds on the 2000GT?
2)Do seals spontaneously go bad after a while, necessitating the drip trays?
Great set of cars.
I feel like I could just walk up and put them in my pocket.
I need a '64 Suzuki Carry Van. A precursor to the (gen1) xB?
@Bumblebee: i think the 2000gt is one of the most all-around amazing looking cars ever. i stood and stared for a while because seeing one is super rare. i saw no drips in the drip trays but japan is so squeaky clean that i guessed it more preventive than necessary.
Once again I am struck by the handsomeness of the 65 Silvia. A clean lovely design. My other favorites are the N360 and the 117.
The museum has a nice website with (small) pictures of all the cars: [www.toyota.co.jp]
There is some severely rad stuff in there. Thank you much, Harumph.
How can the GTs and sporty ones look so great and the sedans look so bizarre? There's no crosstalk at all.
Good god I like that Sports 800. I was already dealing with a sweaty forehead after seeing the honey-dripping sex bomb of an Alfa Giuglia on 1st Ave last night, and now this.
Have you ever seen so many chrome fender-mounted mirrors in your life? Where have these things gone? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?
@brandegee: Agreed on the Silvia. The Prince R380 is three kinds of awesome as well, and I love the lines on the Isuzu.
That Mazda Carol has Vel Satis butt 30+ before Renault did.
Best five minutes I've ever spent. Really like the 1970 Celica.
