Apparently that's not an unusual thing — but it's certainly unusual to us to see a kangaroo take a flying leap into the midst of the Bathurst 1000 V8 supercar championship race this past weekend. Little Skippy went a-hoppin' and a-leapin' onto the racetrack and somehow managed to neither cause himself or any racecar any serious injury. By the way, didja see how fast those Ford V8's swerved out of the way — we've never seen a Ford corner so fast in all our lives.

reminds me of seeing a deer try to cross I-94
Laff @ Ford cornering comment.
I like my Roo hot braised with Vegemite.
Please stop if you've heard this one: Q: Why did the kangaroo cross the road? A: It was the chicken's day off! (groan)
Reminds me of my commute on the days I ride my bike in.
It was trying to become the first 3D SuperRoo sticker.
I swear it looks like one of the cars was sponsored by PETA ..... and being driven by Alicia Silverstone.....
Slight twist to the phrase 'car-be-que' as it looks like the exhaust flame singed the 'roos tail from the angle... :)
But I am sure glad that no one was hurt in the filming.
PETA = People Eating Tasty Australians.
No, wait - that's sounded porno...
"Kangaroo live near the racetrack and often jump about."
haha.
I nominate this kangaroo for hoon of the day.
All in all, that was very well driven, especially since that soccer-mom-a-roo was obviously chatting on her cell phone as she drove to the track.
I nominate the statement "no racecars or kangaroos were injured" as quote of the week.
Remember this?

(Bunny vs. DTM Mercedes)
I don't know why, but I positively LOST it when the song started. That was hilarious! I vote we slap some stickers and a turbo on that roo and try to get him entered into the race.
Boo ha ha ha ha! The song is fucking hilarious!
@no_slushbox: I nominate this comment as 'Comment of the Day'
@jimmythefly: Awesome!
Reckon it's true the outback roo do jump about a bit, but bloody hell I'm gobsmacked. I'd bet me feral ute that Skippy there's a fair dinkum reincarnated racer.
These V8s are designed to race on Formula 1 style tracks (ie non-oval, twisty-turny) at 200 mph - so their cornering and stability is light years better than Nascar sedans. At Bathurst, you've also got hills (and wildlife) - so the racing is even more dynamic and varied. Excuse my peasantry, but I just don't get Nascar - it's so boring in comparison.
I wish we had V8 Supercars instead of NASCAR.
Those are some GOOD F*&%ING DRIVERS.
That looked like it was choreographed for an action movie.
What is it about Bathurst and weird events? This time the 'roo but do we all remember Amborse's unbolted tire ("tire and car parted company") that rolled down the inside of the long straight, crossed the track btwn an open slot btwn the , hopped up on the berm, and bounced flat up and onto (& 'asleep' on) the tire wall "Wheel Tired"?
"You couldn't do it if you tried, could you?! That's why the call it a control tire! "
Then there was the female flasher distracting drivers, on in particular...(staged, of course and unfortunately)
@Uncle Trash:
I nominate this nomination as nomination of the day.
or deer vs can am car

What NASCAR should be.... minus the wildlife. Leave the roadkill dutys to the big rigs.
Oh, and that song was the theme song for a TV show back in the 70's and 80's named, you guessed it, Skippy.
there was one like this a few months ago
at a different bathhurst race...
same time that the hulk Eric Bana wrecked his car
i lost the link though...
but here is one in 2004

stinkin roos are all over the place!!!
i splattered a few in my day...
my buddy ran OVER TOP a roo on on a honda 750... and managed NOT to dump it...( the motorcycle that is, not the roo...)
I'm calling fake, this didn't happen in the 2007 race, I'm 95% percent certain. (I watched the whole thing).
I remember it from a few years back though, I think its just been re-edited into the new footage...
I think Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo is # 4782 why I just love ol Aussie!!!
Hi-larious (and dangerous) stint goin on there. And here I remember bein nervous when a raccoon ran in front of me at 50mph.
@pedalfist: FAKE!!!? I THINK IT HAPPENED ON THE SATURDAY BEFORE THE RACE.
IT DID HAPPEN A FEW BATHURST 1000'S BACK ON THE APPROACH TO THE CUTTING BUT THIS TIME THE ROO WAS HIT. BADDD!
CHECK IT OUT

I started to grin when the car back fired and burnt the Roo's bush. But then lost it on the music, I think I woke my neighbors up...
