Spy Photos: 2008 Honda Accord V6

If you loved the camo-free shots of the 2008 Honda Accord last week, we've got some lovely new photos for you of the V6 version of the next generation of the top-selling car in America for fifteen of the last twenty years. These shots come from a couple of vacationers in Cape Cod drafted into the spy photo-snapping army of Brenda Priddy. We've still no idea what the output of the V6 will be, but we're expecting it to be a 3.5-liter V6 with about 270-horsepower.

UPDATE:We've now got the trifecta — some spy shots of the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe below spotted near the Ohio factory!

  • I said it before and I'll say it again: Hyundai Sontata front meets Saturn Aura rear. Not feeling this.

  • I can deal if the V6 6 speed option stays....even better if they offer it on less than fully equipped models!

  • The grille is still off to me, but the headlights are growing on me. It's suitably aggressive-lite. (You know, kinda aggressive, but not enough to scare buyers off?)

  • That's a Nissan grille if ever I saw one.

  • First thing I said was interesting... another Saturn :P

  • im hoping all sport versions black out that nasty plastic chrome grille.

    2 doors all the way

  • I propose a new rule: No more repeat posts of spy-shots of lame cars that no car enthusiast could possibly be interested in actually owning.

  • Hrmm.. I think they screwed the Mugen on this one.

  • @long_live_the_E36: Good rule. However, if Jalopnik only ever blogged about Lambo's, Ferrari's, and such there would be no new news to read for like a week.

  • Dull. Things like this make me appreciate our 2006 Subaru Legacy (before they naturally made it weird and uglier).

    And hell, I like Hondas.

  • what we have here is a generic formula with a few design details that are white bread appealing. Overall, a 'nice' design but, breaking no new ground and not easy to distinguish as a Honda.
That is the biggest design flaw of all.

  • Those headlights should look cooler than they are. This is typical of the past few years of imports, nothing really too exciting in terms of looks.

  • @bzr: It's hard decerning what you want, either ugly or boring.

  • For reals?

Front end of the Sonata, C-pillar from the Altimaxima, and back end of a Lexus LS? And those fog lamps are right off the new Impreza (meaning: they don't match the rest of the styling). Everything's angles and planes, but then the fogs are roundy. No... doesn't work.

Hondas were never known for being beautiful cars, but at least they were inoffensive... this here is downright UGLY.

  • @Ray Wert Jr: That IS hard, actually. Boring is boring, but at least ugly is still interesting. You won't lose your Aztek in a parking garage.

@Roadster_Guy: Dude, we've been through this already.

  • this car looks almost like a frickin BMW 3 series with a different grille
looks like it has many influences from lexus.

definitelly, lack of originality for Honda.

  • When have Accords ever been style leaders? Honda takes very few design risks, so I wouldn't expect them to do it with their flagship. I love me some S2000 goodness, but their volume products have always been sorta bland. I'm sure the interior will be nice, though.

On a related subject, I got to drive a Fit this weekend. Really cool little car.

  • @bzr: Dang, and I really wanted to call in my Aztek as stolen.

I hear sitting in those things gives you Montezumas Revenge.

You know, there is something to be said about dull cars. Cops don't notice them either, so it's easier to speed without getting caught.

  • I see they are trying to outdo Camry on the ugly factor. That grill is just awful. And the back is horrendous! What the hell Honda?

  • 2001 called. They want their Aztek back.

  • @SRekauqh: I'm familiar with the old Hyundai Sonata, but this new sonTata you mention sounds pretty freaky...........
Re '08 Accord. ...well, I thought the 2003 was a nice-looking breakthrough... This one? Hmmm, in the future, reminiscing about the twenty-uh-oh's, will we be saying that the ANGRY-look was the zeitgeist?

  • @Ray Wert Jr: You're assuming somebody's going to go out of their way to steal/be caught dead in one in the first place. Though hey, there's some pretty weird people out there, including those who bought one to begin with. ZING! I'll be here all night. Try the veal*!

(*My dorky English teacher in 11th grade used to say that all the time. We hated him for it.)

  • Not bad. I'd consider it for my next sedan.

  • They should use the previous model headlights on this.

  • It really does look Korean.

    That's not good at all.

  • Man....I don't know about this one. To me, it looks like a Chinese copycat car that liberally borrows cues from BMW 5-Series and Hyundai Sonata.

    Not feeling it.

  • Another thing...some interesting interaction continues between Sonata and Accord. When the 2006 Sonata debuted, many noted that it looked like an Accord from the rear.

Now the new Accord looks like the Sonata up front!

  • You know what's really dull? Sitting beside the road watching other people drive by because your car screwed up. Hondas do that to you less often than most, and that's why lots of people buy them.

I've never understood why people care so much about what the exterior of a car looks like. You can't see it when you're inside.

It's almost like they're trying to, you know, impress people or something.

  • @Cam68: You're right. Every car should look exactly the same.

  • @Cam68: You know, for the most part I really have to concur... My priority is reliability and Hondas have that. I don't give a damn about looks. I'm thinking my next car will probably resemble the carcass of a rotting wart hog, and smell accordingly. (Although I might add some chrome prisma-tape striping along the door edges and stuff to add a touch of bling.)

  • The front looks better than current Accord. The rear is about the same, it's got an Acura RL droop going. I'm not sure why they picked that grille design, I guess all the distinctive ones (Aston Martin, Audi, Ford razor, Subaru x 4) are taken.

There's no reason for a car to have a chrome grille and huge plastic light covers, but they all do. So every mid-range sedan looks more and more the same, just like SUVs are indistinguishable. The ONLY model advancing sedan styling is the Prius, because it has some actual engineering goals.

  • These are definitely the best shots yet of the new Accord. Unfortunately, "best" does not apply in any way towards the actual exterior design of the car.

This one's a snoozer, people. When I bought my '03 Accord sedan, the front was actually kinda edgy for the time (keep in mind what the Camry looked like at the time). My dad thought it kinda looked like the Audis at that point.

Now, it seems like Honda ripped off Hyundai after Hyundai ripped off Honda.

I'm up for a new vehicle soon, and I'm sorry, but I like just a little bit of style in my wheels. What little there was in '03 when the last new Accord rolled out is now gone with this new Accord. There's lots of other choices out there, though. Time to explore!

  • Kudos goes to the new 2008 Honda Prelude...I mean Accord coupe. The sedan is having an identity crisis though. I have the 06 Accord Sedan, and I am not thrilled, but pleased. However, if I am at a showroom and my choice is between a brand new 06 Accord and the 08...I think I will go with the earlier model. The 06 is more Honda-ish. The new model seems to be a cross between the current Camry (front) and the Altima (rear), with a dash of the new and FUGLY Sebring thrown in for good measure.

  • Okay, most of the people are joke commenters, right? This car is going to take back the #1 spot from Toyota, if Honda's dealer network has the chops to move the cars (Toyota has a superior dealer organization). This car is exactly right and when you see it on the street, you will be amazed at how good it looks, and how ridiculous most of these comments look. When that day comes, check back here and give me the props, because I assure you, it's coming.

  • PPGOODING: i agree with u a %100 all those ppl think they know wat they are talkin about..
