The Ford Cortina may well have been the rest of the world's Chevelle. The little Ford was hopped up for all manner of events (Lotus or Cosworth = 396 or 454), and while it didn't quite have the everyman cachet of the Mini, its shrinky-dink Falcon good looks and the rather incredible-for-the-time Kent engine made it a contender on the track, as well as a family vehicle to a fair number of busloads of Europeans and Australians. (As a side note, Nick Sheppard — one of the two guitarists who replaced Mick Jones in the best-forgotten final incarnation of the Clash — was in a Bristol-based band called The Cortinas prior to joining the staggering rags of the best band ever to come out of London.)
