The German Car Blog highlights a report in German magazine Bild indicating strong competition in the hatchback segment is leading VW to schedule its next-generation Golf for as early as 2008 — a mere five years from launch of the current model. New versions are said to include a two-door coupe and a high-top version similar to the current Golf Plus. Five years? That must mean the US version will be ready by 2012. Or thereabouts.
