Ka-blam! Amid an over-the-top display of old-west paraphernalia and wide-screen images of working guys gettin' 'er done, Toyota rolled out its redesigned full-sized Tundra pickup, the product of seven years in market research into American truck buyers' needs, desires and demographic hoohas. Set to be released 11 months from now, making it a 2008 model, according to Toyota USA boss, Jim Press, the new Tundra is a completely new vehicle from bulky stem to Dodge-like stern. The top-of-the-mast version will get a new, 5.7-liter V8 and a towing capacity of 10,000lbs, while the base version will get a 4.0-liter V6 (a 4.7-liter V8 will also be offered). Production will be split between the company's existing Princeton, Indiana truck plant and its new San Antonio, Texas plant. This time, the good ol' boys from Achi Prefecture may have gotten it right.
