VW-Chrysler Minivan Alliance Finalized, Details in Detroit

The German Car Blog picked up a story running on German media that Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler's joint minivan project is a go, and that details will be announced Sunday at the Detroit auto show. We'd imagine what DCX gets out of the deal is a supply of emissions-friendly diesel engines, while VW gets a vehicle to fill a gaping hole in its poorly selling US line. What we get is likely a run of hyperclever ads involving subtle references to van-based pot smoking (well, maybe). Production will reportedly start in 2008.
