It's that magic time of year, when trophy wives the world over begin licking their chops and reminding their wealthy husbands how much sexier they would look in a Porsche. Yes friends, the new GT2 is nigh, and it is still nuts. In case you don't know the drill, the GT2 is a Porsche Turbo juiced up on angel dust. The 996 GT2 had 450 horsepower and RWD, as opposed to the regular Turbo's 420 hp and AWD system. All who drove it described the GT2 as "frightening," if not more than a little bit dangerous. The more things change... The new 997 GT2 also sheds its all-wheels drivenness, but instead of a mere 30-hp bump, Porsche is mainlining 50 more. Oh, and the new GT2 will be about 50 pounds lighter than the old one. Expect it at your local dealer this November, just two short months after the Turbo Cabriolet comes to town. Hope you have a good prenup. Jump for pics.

Expect the first GT2 pics on wreckedexotics on November 2nd.
if it's mostly for trophy wives then it would be the widowermaker.
Why would I still rather have a GT3 RS?
Looks like a Turbo had an affair with an S7 but luckily for the unfaithful turbo the kid only has hints of milkman at the rear.
I love that they painted the lower diffuser body color, I hate seeing turbos with black (and scuffed) front lower diffusers
What's the estimated 0-60 on the GT2? On the turbo I believe it's the same as the C6 Z06 - 3.7 seconds. I just want to see how bad this thing will burn my Exige S (60 in 4sec).
@harumph: No, see, it's the wives telling the husbands that THEY (the husbands) would look good in the GT2.
@harumph: No, see. The Trophy wives are excited because their rich, old Husbands will be dead.
@Paul Stamatiou: Moto Autho is saying 3.7 -- basically the same as the Turbo.
But, who knows?
And remember, the Automatic Turbo can hit 60 mph in 3.4...
@jonnylieberman:
the world of the idle rich is so confusing to me.
@jonnylieberman:
Dear Jonny,
Can we add this to the fantasy garage? I know I have spoken bad about the other other VAG ubercar, the Veyron, but this one is a race car with a nice interior, and it looks all hoon'd.
Thank you,
E
@Davey G.: Me too
The GT2 has always managed to shave some Lbs off the Turbo - in more ways than removing 4WD. I wonder what this thing will tip the scales at. I also wonder if Porshce will be using the Dry Sump platform 3.8 fromt the RSR. They haven't managed to carry that over to the current GT3's - which is why the 997 GT3's run with the 3.6 platform from the 996.
This thing will be plenty fast 0-60, but its not meant to be a dragger - 4WD is more effective putting the power down from a stand still - so I wouldn't be surprised if the Turbo can best it in that category. My advice is to buy a vette is you want to drag race. Porsches do best on road courses.
@leighzbohns: One thing is for certain, a bone stock Porsche interior will be in the garage.
The more days that go by, the more I realize that a Porsche is the very best place to sit. In the world.
'72 RS
Until I can shake one loose from someone, this will do.
The RS is also my nominee for the JFG.
Curse the FIA for crippling turbos. We won't have the 997 GT2 in the FIA GT Championship or the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I miss fast GT racing Porsches. Somebody should do a 935 replica body for the 997 GT2.
@Grib: As a fellow fan of Bruce gone perfectly ostentatious, I salute you, SeƱor Grib. I cannot picture myself rolling in a GT2. I can, however, see myself cruising/hooning all about in an orange RS with black wheels for all eternity. Ironically, it seems less flash and more purposeful. Despite the paint, it strikes me as the purest 911 available.
@Davey G.: Except for that Flying Nun rear-wing...
@harumph: No, see if it was the idle rich, the hubbies would survive. The widows will be made for the rich guys that are brave/foolish enough to drive this thing revving significantly above idle.
@Davey G.: Some of that time would no doubt be spent cruising backwards in the RS, as they didn't have ANY nannys back then, and rear-engined light weight of that vintage can be a handful!
God help you if you lift at the wrong time!
Define irony: a car that will be a handful on a dry race course...pictures sitting on a wet road with snow in the background.
@lascauxcaveman:
like i said, i am very confused by all this.
sigh.
Clarkson drove the turbo AWD drive. And said this: "It's got too much power!!" If I was living in Albania, I would stay off the roads when this thing hits the dealers.
