AutoWeek is reporting Honda wants to flood the increasingly gas-shy US market with considerable quantities of subcompacts. As Honda President and CEO Takeo Fukui announced last month, Honda is introducing its Japanese Fit model, which will, er, fit below the Civic in its North American line, in 2007 in the face of new competition in the subcompact space from Ford and Nissan. Koichi Kondo, CEO of American Honda Motor Co. Inc., told AutoWeek its unofficial sales goal is 60,000 units.
