Safe at Any Speed: Honda's ASV Prototype

Quick, name the car in which you'd most want to fall asleep while driving. Sure, that gold-plated Coupe DeVille may have style, but if you weren't looking to go out with a flourish, rather to actually wake up alive (heh heh), you'd be better off with Honda's Advanced Safety Vehicle prototype. Built from an Accord sedan, the ASV is filled with the latest safety gadgets, driver-assistance technologies that can "see" obstacles and communicate positional information with other vehicles. It also has a range of tactile controls, like a force-feedback videogame controller, that vibrate in warning, combined with a system that will take over if a driver's own actions won't prevent an accident. The prototype is part of a project funded by Japan's Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport, the current phase of which is to explore pre-crash systems.
