Peugeot Citro n is trying to convince European lawmakers to support a plan to pay owners of old, polluting car 1,000 to junk them. The governments (of course) would pay the incentive, which could be used to buy a new car — possibly a Peugeot or Citro n with a hybrid engine (hint, hint) — or a newer second-hand one. Owners could also buy a bus pass and keep the balance for Italian shoes and a Chanel shoehorn. So far no European Union officials will bite.
