Jalopnik's Gumball 3000 correspondent, Alex Roy, reports from the finish line of the 2005 rally in Monaco. While it looks like the inimitable (is that even a word?) Mr. Roy and his Team Polizei did not get the checkered flag, they did, unofficially, get second — topping the team's 2004 Spirit Trophy win. Other results are official — check them out after the jump. [Updated!]

    Official results:

    Spirit Trophy Winner

    finish in my car.

    Enthusiasm Winner

    best,
    Alex

[Update: An excellent account of Alex's signature shenanigans, and the supercar shootout that ensued through Italy, is up on the Gumball 3000 forum. Here's an excerpt:

Alex Roy proved his legendary status once again yesterday by getting to the Sicilian ferry port by 8:25am and cordoning it off with police tape. He then sailed alone on a ferry to mainland Italy and "cruised at 8/10ths" (140mph in torrential rain) towards Rome, sirens and lights on continuously.

The M5 cop car is permanently online and get [sic] updates on the positions of other Gumballers, so it didn't come as a suprise [sic] when it's [sic] lead was threatened by a blue Porsche Turbo being driven brilliantly by Spencer Bourne.

A 90 minute battle ensued taking the cars all the way into Rome, with the Porsche overtaking on clear roads and Alex using his sirens to take the lead when traffic built up. Eventually the Porsche slipped back due to Spencer's "poor toll booth strategy" and "poor GPS strategy" (wrong turn) leaving the delighted cops claiming another
    victory.

We'll be awaiting a wrapup from the man himself.]
