Hi, I'm Dave: Ford's New Design Direction

Ford design boss Peter Horbury says European wannabe designs are out at Ford. From now on, it's bold, open American designs that say "Hi, I'm Dave! Fly Me to Miami!" (We shit you not. Well, maybe about the Miami part.) Representing the old attitude of reactive, "global" designing is the relatively unsuccessful Ford Five Hundred, which apes the presence of German-designed Audis and certain VWs, while the new attitude is indicated in the four-bar grille, arched hood and smooth sides found on the Fusion and new Edge. This "Dave" Horbury, a Brit, is referring to is a fictional interpretation of a characteristically American personality — open and enthusiastic, not guarded and self-conscious like those bastards in Cirque d'Soleil.
