GM Scales Back Plans for Kappa Architecture

General Motors is dialing down its enthusiasm toward creating new, high-concept cars on its Kappa platform, which was to host more spinoffs than CBS in the 1970s. The Kappa (Detroitian for "made from Legos") rear-drive architecture undergirds the new Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters, and was to support the Chevrolet Nomad, which is based on a design that's been kicking around the Chevy offices for a half-century. Executives say the company will concentrate on launching mainstream models, making Kappa-car development a low priority.
