Nissan just announced a new family of global cars it plans to launch over the next two years, the first model of which — the Livina Geniss — will hit China this year. It's the first time Nissan has launched a car on the banks of the Yangtze before other markets, indicating the company wants a slice of that expanding pie more than it wants a slice of GM. Built on a joint Renault-Nissan platform, the Livinia G. — a "luxurious yet practical" seven seater — will debut this month at the Guangzhou International Motor Show. Designed and engineered at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan — but built at the Huadu plant of Nissan's joint-venture partner, Dongfeng Motor Co. — the people mover will get a 1.8-liter gas engine with valve timing jobbies and a flexible floorplan. No word on where the next launch will be — or what other badges it'll wear. Might we be looking at the first Chevrolet CUV?
