3-Series Coupe Official Pics?

The site that brings you news of the left lane has stumbled across what seem to be the first official pictures of the new 3-Series Coupe. Is it just us, or is there too much space between the trailing edge of the door and the rear fender? The proportions of this thing are just not gorgeous. The roofline's got some sleekness happening. Call us less-than-thrilled.

  • I didn't think it was possible to get more humdrum, but BMW seem to have perfected the art.

Looks as though you could put actual people in the back seat. That's so not coupe.

  • Man, I miss the older BMW design 'aesthetic' more and more every year. Yes, the older ones tended towards blocky, but they didn't give off a boulevardier vibe. These new swoopy Bimmers just ain't badass.

  • Look p-shopped to me

  • I argue that if Mr. Bangle and crew wouldn't have been hamstrung by all the "I don't understand the design therefore I hate it" ninnies, this coupe would not look so... half-assed, yet extra-assed. What a tragedy.

  • What? There's a reason all of us said we didn't understand the design and therefore hate it....it's terrible, the product of a crack addled mind. This is just a less extreme version of the crap we've been forced to take fro BMW these days. They no longer make cars that anyone lusts after. This is an awful design and they better just pray that there are still a lot of people that get a thrill out of having a little propeller on the front, if not they're toast, and not cinnamon. The tragedy is that Bangle has hamstrung BMW.

  • For some reason, every time I quickglance at the back end/taillights I'm reminded of a Sebring convertible. That, my friends, is not what you'd call a good thing.

  • The front facia is decent, as good as the sedan. The rear is also decent, a huge improvement over the sedan. The profile is uglier than a handful of buttholes, just like the sedan. Overall, this is the best of the Bangled bimmers, which sadly is saying very very little.

  • Because when you look at the back of a Sebring convertible, you're looking at the back of a 4th-Gen Camaro. Which, essentially, is what the 6-Series is. Don't you get the genius of this, PeteJayhawk? They're using associative, cross-brand design DNA to make you think you're driving a more expensive car than you actually are. Geniuses!

  • Oh, no! The best one is the Z4 coupe. This one is just less ugly than the sedan. Less ugly doesn't mean more beautiful.

  • I'm surprised that they pumped the 3.0 up to 272HP. I bet Jim Conforti/Dinan and the rest of the chip tuners will have that engine putting out another 50hp with no trouble and no turbo. So, why would you want to pay another 10K for the 335?

  • Enginewise -- as you all are braindead when it comes to design -- the twin-turbo mill is cranking out 305 HP -- 5 more than the 2.4 Liter Single-Turbo Dodge Caliber SRT4. Go BMW? I mean... come on, guys.

  • All braindead when it comes to design? Right on. I'm a graphic designer.

  • Look here and see how out of proportion and butt-ugly it is. And I have to disagree that the rear treatment is an improvement. The front still looks out of proportion, like every BMW on the road, and now the greenhouse being hit by the biggie-sizing ray-gun just accentuates it.

  • And what in high hades is going on with those taillights? It makes it look like the trunk is not closed all the way. I'd put a dent in the trunk trying to push it closed constantly.

  • It has more rear-overhang than the 'sclade does.
