Brilliance, the automaker most recently associated with crashtastic Euro NCAP testing, plans to release the BC3 coupe shown at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year. First Brilliance plans to drop the 170 HP turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder two-door in the local market this year, Europe in 2008 and perhaps even as a US offering the year after. We'll wait and see — first they've got to get through NCAP and then, more importantly, NHTSA crash testing. [via Edmunds]

That's not a bad looking car at all! Somewhat 911 looking in the roofline & sill plate profile...
Now, if they can make it hold up in a crash better than a wet paper bag, and still sell it for $15K, that'll move here in the States.
Looking good!
I like the shape a lot, minus the grille, headlights, and taillights. This would be awesome if it had a V8 option crammed under the hood...and it wasn't Chinese.
I wonder if all that yellow paint has been tested for lead?
Reminds me of a Pontiac combined with a Tiburon. A decent looking car. I'm not the type that is concerned about safety much, but judging by the videos of the other Chinese car crash tests...they fair about as well as a 2,500 lb cardboard box rolled down a steep hill into a brick wall.
@burglar: ROFL!!
More importantly, what's the result of that test?
Its a good looking car, and Brilliance has demonstrated their ability to improve safety, but the only way for them to succeed in the west, at least at first, is to make themselves not just competitive, but the absolute cheapest of the cheap.
There's still such a stigma associated with Chinese products, especially those with Chinese brand names, that this car would have to be well under $15,000 to even have a chance of catching on. The Hyundai Tiburon starts at just under 17k, and Chevy Cobalt coupes can be had for as low as $10,000, once rebates and discounts are included.
@ranwhenparked: My point exactly... the only point there is to this is it's a cheap coupe, well it's not much to boast about since the huyndai is prettier, faster, cheaper to insure and tax(in the uk anyway) and a lot less chinese, it's a no brainer between the two, especially here in the UK!
It looks like an older version of the Hyundai Coupe... possibly an early, poorly done drawing of the same.
This car looks pretty decent...although it looks like a mashup of parts raided from other company's parts bins. Overall, you get the sense you've seen everything on this car someplace else before.
Is that an Audi steering wheel?
Yellow with red interior - bad color choices. Makes it look like a promotion for McDonalds.
@Fluesterndebombe
It's funny because its (probably) actually true...
@RANWHENPARKED, you have seen the NCAP video haven't you?!
'tis a pretty car though...
Yeah, the grille is absolutely terrible, but I'd still drive it. It'd be nice to have a really cheap turbo coupe available in the U,S,
That's pretty hot. Note to Bangle - this is about the maximum flame you can add to your surfaces without making the the car ridiculous. Nice application of pre-lumpy Mazda on the front end. The taillights are a nice touch, stylish and Chinese-weird but not actually ugly.
US car makers (and not just US car makers) be afraid, be very afraid. The Japanese and Koreans slapped you, but the chinese will finish you off.
i hate it.........this car is merely an apliance, this is why people byuy used
@FreeMan:
Exactly what i was going to say. That wouldn't be too bad if it didn't kill everyone in a ten mile radius.
@norn_iron: I'm not sure anything turbocharged counts as an appliance. I'd love a turbo fridge though. It's already intercooled!
This is interesting looking, but I'm not sure I'd be able to overcome the (theoretically) shoddy quality and reliability or the (almost guaranteed) lack of safety, at least not for $15k. I'm intrigued as hell by this, but they're gonna have to chop at least 2500 off that price before it'd seem justifiable.
I wonder, though, does anyone know if that engine's related to VW's old 1.8 turbo?
I can't put my finger on it, but something about that styling makes the car look old to me. Not old, but maybe like a style from 10 years ago. It kind of looks like a mix between a Sunfire and an early 90s Mercedes.
With the crash test results of other china cars, I have a feeling it won't be accepted so well no matter what the test results of the final production car is (think hyundai when it first came about). Not to say it won't eventually sell, but there won't be many early adopters.
Not too shabby. The icing would be if it was FR.
The general shape itself looks like something from Nissan (Infiniti). Interesting how the BS6 is priced in the mid $20,000 range for your choice of 2 anemic four cylinder engines and then you have this one that is turbocharged for $15,000. The math doesn't add up (or perhaps the BS6 was just a major engineering fuck up).
Looks like one of those pretend-realistic cars that always show up in the Burnout games. Probably handles impacts like one, too.
Thats.....actually not that bad looking. I'd take one in black.
Yeah, get the crash testing sorted out and then lets see if it handles. If those are true, then I wanna see a few people buy one and make sure the turbos aren't exploding after 800 miles like the rest of the chinese turbos we get :)
Looks Italian. This would kill if it was RWD.
