How does the law enforcement community expect citizens to respect authority while the police are gliding around in a standing position? Sure, electric scooters like the Segway come in handy for short-range patrols, but to the average perp, a cop on board is about as threatening as a guest lecturer in sociology. There's a new entry in the dorky-cop-vehicle space, the recently unveiled T3 Series, which is being tested in such dicey locales as the University of Southern California and in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island. Powered by rechargeable batteries, the T3 includes an LED lighting system, sirens, a lockable glovebox and an optional GPS tracking system (make a left at the mailbox in six feet). The company says the vehicle is quick and agile, with "intuitive handling." It's a different device with the same problem — though the third wheel adds the possibility of fear-inducing pursuit wheelies. Include an M60 E3 machine gun rack, however, and we'll talk.
