The paint's barely dry on the new 2008 Laguna and the fancy-schmancy boys at Renault are already hard at work trying to come up with a new Laguna. Apparently the wee little lads who work under Carlos Ghosn have come up with a concept Laguna we'll be seeing live this next week at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Already we're liking what we're seeing in the very Mercury Cougar-esque look of the exterior of the concept car, but as far as the interior, what's that big honkin' knob-like thing in the center of the dash for? Guess we'll find out for sure when we're looking at a press release or when we're there live in Frankfurt and not just looking at some leaked concept car PR shots. [via Carscoop]

Looks pretty sleek and sexy, but who attached a late-90s Rio MP3 player attached to a Sony boombox of similar vintage wrapped inside a Nike wetsuit? I think they're trying to take the whole "active lifestyle" thing too far, but then again I'm just a cold, bitter cynic.
The gearknob looks like a question mark, and it'd be cooler if it was vertical and a Hurst pistol-grip instead.
Don't you mean a very second generation Eclipse-esque?
Not a fan of the interior details (the overall shape of the dash is good), but otherwise, it's pretty hot. :)
@wookie1901:
Or almost Ford Puma-like?
Wow... that's one of the most boring and unimaginitive concept cars i've ever seen.
It looks like Renault will keep the current 350Z chassis alive, even past the '11 overhaul, aka 370Z.
Don't anyone be surprised if this showcar has a 3.5L VQ under the hood.
Wow, France does a decent looking coupe for the first time since the 70s. Thing is, is it actually based on the Laguna or have they done the sensible thing and based it on the G37? Then it would be worth having, but if its just a front-drive Euro-saloon in a sharp suit, forget it, especially as we're actually getting the G37 soon.
I think this is actually a lot simpler visually than the Cougar and the Eclipse, which I like a lot. That's a huge-ass door though.
@Hookey:
They've done a good looking coupe before. The 406 coupe (by pininfarina) is one of the most gorgeous non exotic I've come across.

You really have to see it in person to appreciate it.
G37 + Acura CL, and better executed than either.
Good lookin' cage.
Needs less R8.
This is some kind of bastard breeding between the current gen Honda Accord, Audi TT and Audi R8.
(R8 for grille, TT for the door/side "flame surfacing" Accord for the C pillar.)
@kekekeke: Oh yeah, forgot about that one, I think the 407 coupe burned out part of my brain when I saw it, exorcising past Peugeots :)
I don't know what some of you are talking about. That is one seriously beautiful car. I am glad to see a new French car with good looks. (The Peugeot 407 coupe was the last one that looked good. Peugeot has since lost the plot)
This just goes to show that anything can look good if you mate it with an Aston Martin, even a chrysler concorde. Seriously, that is a nice, bland looking car if you know what I mean. I'll echo others and question the interior design.
