First we drool over the amazing Honda Coupe 9 in the Fantasy Garage. Then we spot one on eBay and we figure, well, that's the last we'll see of that car. But wait! Now we hear from Junkman (the madman behind the Pontiac 400-powered Deutsch-Bonnet and the Chevy 400-powered Porsche 356) that he has obtained that very same 1971 Honda Coupe 9! We're hoping to get more photos soon, but make the jump to hear what he has to say about the car.
In Junkman's own words:
The Coupe 9 just came today and I'm very excited! The engine generates an incredible sound-half dirt bike, half Ferrari (I guess, more properly, 1/3 Ferrari). Not loads of power but totally useful with plenty of torque. I drove the last ten miles using the hand brake only, so I didn't push it hard but I can tell it will be a blast to drive. My younger employees, who don't look twice when I drive a twelve cylinder Lincoln to work, went crazy over this scruffy little Honda. It will be interesting to see the reaction of the tuner crowd when an old guy shows up with it at one of their events in the spring...

"...when I drive a twelve cylinder Lincoln to work"
Awesome.
i am glad it seems to have gotten a good home.
death to all its detractors!
now that is a nice honda!
I've always said that if I win the lottery, screw buying an exotic car (or two). I want a fleet of oddball cars and sleepers. Junkman is living the life!
@LTDScott: Junkman is indeed living the life.
Let's get more info/pictures!
The 9 had cast-iron JFG credentials from the start. Anybody caught arguing will be force-fed an R34 Skyline.
I love the 9. Junkman you rock. However I would like to point out a problem: The 9 is no longer within the realm of Fantasy for Jalop because one of the Jalops now has one in his possession, it is most clearly, a reality. Therefore should it be removed from the JFG by default and given the title of Jalopnik Maskot car?
Cool, when does the Chevy 400 go in?
It's in good hands, for sure.
Coupe 9, 12-cyl Linc, Deutsche-Bonnet, etc. Junkman, exactly what the hell do you do for a living? And do you need a flunky?
Good to see the Coupe getting the proper respect that it deservers. I remember my uncle talking about it as one of the most iconoclastic cars of its time. Now he drives an A8 or something.
@Benson2175: Clearly, we need a Jalopnik Reality Garage. It'll be somewhere between mundane and dismal, excepting of course Junkman's collection.
This is proof that Japan once produced stylish cars that aren't all beige.
Awesome! I thought for sure that was the last we would see of that car. Glad to see that we'll be able to get some updates on it once in a while and see that it is well taken care of. Glad it's in good hands!
All those little old cute Hondas, I remember them. They were funky sweet. Buddy had one with chain drive.
Junkman: Living the dream.
Great to see it's gone to a worthy recipient. I took my coupe 9s out on the weekend. They sound awesome at full RPM through the hills. Good luck with it and let us know at:
