Heads Up! Mid-Engined Vegamino Alert!

Putting a truck bed on a Chevrolet Vega has been done many times, so spotting a Vegamino for sale is something of a ho-hum event. However, when we see a Vegamino with a Chevy 350 mounted just behind the cab (thanks to Corvair components and a "Saginol" 4-speed transmission), it gets our attention. Thanks to Junkman (owner of the Honda Coupe 9) for the tip! [eBay Motors]

I have to say, the Vegamino is the best looking Vega I've ever seen. If Chevy had made this model, they'd still be on the market.

Best ebay yet. I bet you get good grip/balance with the engine placement. I don't think i would pay $15k for it though.

  • Couldn't anything have been done to shield the engine from the elements a bit more, like putting the distributor inside the cabin? More electrical fun!

  • Given there's lots of dead air just behind the cab, it must be hard to keep cool

  • It looks like something that was created by the minds at Hot Wheels or Matchbox back in the day of the Vega! Not a bad looking ride.

  • where's the radiator? in the cab?

regardless, this thing is absurdly fantastic

@POLAR: Did you notice that they are selling this worldwide.
It also has a "69 CORVAIR SPIDER RAR END"

  • If you meet all the seller's conditions, the end result is you carrying $15,000 cash to the arse-end of Tennessee.

Wouldn't one be feeling rather, er, tense, at this point?

  • What a funky conversion. I have a huge 'ute' conversion fetish. It's well done, but the whole mid-rear thing defeats the purpose of cutting it into a truck....I mean, where are your friends going to sit when you decide to paint ball kindergardeners walking from from their first day of school?

  • A Vegamino is ho-hum? I really need to move to California. I'm not just saying that because we got our first snow yesterday and I'm sick of winter already, I've never seen one of these.

First of all, I don't think the "Corvair Spyder Rar End" won't handle the power generated by the engine and the "Saginol" Transmission. But the best part is you get a nice set of "CRAGER WHEELS AND TIERS". Sometimes it make you wonder if they even try and use a spell check.

  • The Turbine wheels are a perfect touch.

@POLAR: LOL, you took that apart like a cheap lawnchair.

@UDMAN: Ugh, I just re-read my post. I sound as retarded as the guy who posted the Vegamino ad....

Everything about this listing makes me so happy.

God bless you eBay, God bless you Jalopnik, God bless you Junkman.

  • @POLAR: Commentor of the day, for sure. Or would that be Commontatar? Or cumin 'tater?

Seriously awesome project, as long as you live in SoCal where it doesn't rain. Reminds me of this Aussie ElCamino with an engine in the front and back, both with blowers that I saw in CarCraft once. Oops, I meant CamaroCraft...

  • This would make an interesting dragster. Sorry, though,I don't get it for a street car. It looks like the basic body work of the conversion was done very well. Then someone put the engine in the wrong place. If you actually put anything of any size in the bed, it would take out the distributor at the first traffic light. And you might as well lighten the car a bit more by removing the wipers; it's not like you can drive it in the rain.

Best Shevy Vayger I ever sawed.

Hope it gose for a good pryce.

  • @Stoatmaster: Comment. Day. Now.

Great looking car; pity the guy listing it has been hit in the head with a spiked bat.

  • @DiscoQuinn: Simple. Install rumble seats in the engine bay!

I love this. If someone can do this, it stands to reason I can build a mid-engine Ford Capri. Right? Right?

  • Wait a second -- I have the solution. Make it a hybrid! Put the electric motor up front. The battery pack goes in the bed. Put a tonneau cover over the engine and the batteries. Still not practical but bet it goes like stink and sips gas too.

  • 4 lug Cragars FTW.

  • You'd think someone with the ability to do something like this Vegamino would also have the ability to master a computer to post the listing and not rely on `a friend' who was still working their way through "Spelling for Rednecks".

  • Vegamino = awesome. They should have stopped right there..no need to bother with midengined shenanigans..unless wheelies are what you had in mind. My '72 Vega "Kammback" with all-iron 350 had 55/45 weight distribution, with the engine in the regular place, and even at that handled & hooked up just fine..

    Oh, $15k? They're clearly insane.
