Mustang the Pirate: The Roush Blackjack

What's the latest from the Roushies? It's a jet-black Mustang, supercharged to the tune of 430 hp. The company echoes Henry Ford's Model T strategy — you can get any color as long as it's "midnight black." And wouldn't you know, it's called the Blackjack. Only 100 Stage 3 cars will be built; that's the six-piece chicken dinner with all the fixins. All the related componentry can be had for a cool $28,782. Shipping and handling is extra.

  • 430HP from a 29k Mustang? Not bad, as long as they mulled over the suspension long enough to make it safe for such output. If not, this Roush could be a rolling fireball. And I mean rolling as in roof over chassis, not as in all four wheels.

  • Texans, I think you misunderstood. The kit to make your run of the mill Mustang into a blackjack is 29K.

  • Not quite TexansAreHot: Pay 35k for the Mustang GT (that's what they're going for, check autotrader for the real selling prices) and $29k for the supercharger + crap = $64,000 for a 430hp Mustang.

Yeah... i'm going to have to say no on this one... think I'd rather get a 350hp C5 for under 20k and a 5k supercharger kit for 450+ hp for less than the price of the stang alone.

  • I almost shit my pants in excitement when I saw that price...... but then I realized that doesn't include the base GT.

So.... $53K+ for a 430hp mustang is actually horrible. Although, they did put a lot into it.

Texans - the did tweak the suspension quite heavily.

  • I like it except for the bumper and the driving lights.

The $29k makes it a $60,000 car, though! Isn't the GT500 around $45k? There's also some other major competition in that area. So I'm not so smitten..

  • iamjames - I'm not sure what GTs you're looking at, but they're definitely not going for 35K. I got mine for 25.

You must be looking at convertible GTs with dealer added body kits and wheels.

  • Do the replace the driveshaft?
Because I recall an article on Jalopnik not too long ago saying Mustang driveshafts suck.

And they really do suck, I've had drive shafts snap on Vics (same one in stangs, both RWD cars) while driving down the road, and i've read Vics are limited to ~110 mph (even police cruisers) because the crappy drive shaft shakes violently if you go too much over that. My old 5.7 V8 LT1 police cruiser had an electronic limiter at 130mph and it felt pretty good at that speed.

  • Oops. My bad guys. I'd been awake for fifteen minutes and was nursing a hangover. Screw that then. For 64 grand, I'm not going to out-douche everyone with a goddamn Mustang.
