With GM killing off the most exciting new line of cars to hit North America since 1967, its Chevrolet division is unveiling its own hotrods. The company will add three new SS versions in its product line for 2006, the Malibu SS, Malibu Maxx SS and Trailblazer SS, at the New York auto show this week — expanding its Super Sport franchise to a level well beyond that of the SS's heyday in the late 1960s. Whoo.

The TrailBlazer SS will have a 6.0-liter V8, pushing 391 horsepower, which will propel the pretty-large SUV from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, as well as a sport suspension tuned on Germany's Nurburgring test track.

The three new models bring the number of Chevrolet's high-performance SS vehicles in production to eight, along with the Cobalt, Silverado pickup, SSR roadster, Monte Carlo and Impala sedan. And by high-performance, we mean in comparision to a typical Hertz lot. Oh yes, we're bitter today.
