On the heels of BMW's announcement that it would produce a limited-edition, hydrogen-fueled 7-Series in a few years, Ford unveiled a supercharged internal combustion engine that runs on hydrogen, primarily to power airport shuttles. Such technologies, a Ford executive said, offers the benefit of near-zero emissions at a lower cost than hydrogen fuel cells. Plus, to anyone who's spent any time in airport buses, the prospect of not getting a lungful of diesel exhaust seems almost as appealing as not having to sit next to that dazed-looking family of six, who are still clutching their airsickness bags.
