It's obvious that GM, DaimlerChrysler and BMW subscribe to the "third's a charm" rule over "three on a match is bad luck" rule. BMW has just become the big boys' hybrid-developing cuz, joining the two to collaborate on gas-electric engines for their cars. While BMW has yet to finalize the deal, it has begun proceedings to become the third member of a hybrid technology-sharing partnership formed last month between GM and DCX, with GM designing such powerplants for rear-wheel AWD full-size trucks and SUVs, and front-wheel-drive cars and crossover vehicles, and Daimler designing for rear-drive luxury cars. No word on whether BMW will supply an M-Power performance hybrid to round out the offerings.
