This press shot was picked off the SRT Forums, where the poster claims it's the new 2009 Dodge Ram. We've no idea whether or not that's true, but what we do know is that since we didn't have access to embargoed press shots before the unveil expected to come at the Detroit Auto Show in 2008, it certainly wasn't us that posted it over there. Hey, maybe next time Chrysler will actually decide our readers are deserved of embargo access, eh? We're expecting the new Ram to be coming to market with a light-duty V8 Cummins turbodiesel will have about 260-300 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, with gas mileage supposedly to hit 20 mpg city and 25 on the highway (compared with the Hemi's 13/17). Acceleration is about 1 second longer on the 0-60 (9.6 seconds rather than 8.6 seconds). Whatever, we look forward to watching the stampeding bulls make their way through the city of Detroit in January. What the up-charged Mopar forum fans have to say after the jump.
veritas: "I hope that's horribly inaccurate."
georgejetson: "I think it looks good. Way better than the hideousness that is the current truck."

If Gawker sold out to Cerberus, your access level would probably increase exponentially.
Certainly can't understand extreme secrecy about this rather conservative change from the previous year. It's sort of becoming more generic, compared to its original striking self. Like a Dodge Ramada.
I'll say it here too. It looks good, better than the current truck, like they succeeded at what they were trying to do with the Dakota (where they failed miserably). You can see the Dodge muscle car DNA in it, which IMO is a good sign for the future design of the rest of the Dodge lineup.
And FWIW, I think the difference will be quite obvious and dramatic when we get a side-by-side with the current truck.
It does look a little better than the current truck, thanks to the headlights, rims, and fender creases. Of course, there was nowhere to go but up from the current model, which runs a close third in ugliness behind the Ridgeline and Titan.
@Vipper Of Vipp: Naah, the Dakota is uglier than the current Ram. Ram's no higher than fourth.
I definitely think making the truck look like a muscle car is an approach that will work much better for Dodge than their recent approach of making the muscle cars look like trucks.
All I see in the picture is a cleaned up 1997 Dodge Dakota.
Wow. I peed a little with this one. Looks good.
No, I can confirm that that's the '09 Ram. I've actually driven that very truck, albiet it was around a photo studio in Detroit. Honestly, the only thing cool about it is the built-in cargo boxes in the bed.
steady improvement is key.
Dodge actually toned down the machismo. Nice.
Bring on the light duty diesels!
Maybe it's just me, but I have this strange feeling that this page might be sponsored by Subaru.
Way too mild for rednecks. We'll wait for the 2010 tarted up, turboed hemi "Get Her Done Edition!"
Gotta be an "illustration"-it's obviously a US-market product but there are no amber reflectors in the headlamp cluster (as easily seen in the spy shots). Doesn't look too bad though. The bed lights looks like they were borrowed from the Raider...
25 hon theighway... not bad
@MagicalTrevor:
That's not an illustration. There's a specular highlight (nasty glare) where a light, or the setting sun, is hitting the front corner of the headlight assembly. That, combined with the fact that it looks like that image was taken with a phone camera, has washed out the amber reflector/turn signal part of the assembly. It's there, I can assure you of that.
I like how they cover it like people actually care.
@EricMerrill: says the 17th commenter.
Better than the current, for sure. Huzzah for small diesels. Now put one in the Wrangler.
Looks pretty good, and the Cummins V8 for the 1/2 ton sounds like a winner.
i like the diesel .. i guess it looks better.. but its not much diff... nice color
i bet it still will have a pitiful interior
@Mad_Science: Yes, let's get a diesel into the Wrangler ASAP.
That pic came from Mopar, I am pretty sure its the real deal. I think it looks great. I real improvment over the current truck. I can't wait to see the interior. Its supose to have been realy improved as well.
Here a link to the same pic on the factory mopar site.

People care what pickups look like?
That pic came from the mopar website. look in the Ram truck accys. It is the real deal. I think it looks great. I can't wait to see the new upgraded interiors.

That looks awful.
that subaru ad beneath the article is really playing hell with my browser/screen/computer/internet/eyes/laws of light refraction (I really dont know which one it is, it is just so wide I mean I have railed skinnier ladies)
@Dr. Spaceman: Aparently
No, I'm not. Oh wait, this isn't QOTD?
That looks like it could be the next dodge ram But the grille should be more Boxy like the new Durango and Dakota .
The oil burner option will sway me to this for my next vehicle. 20 MPG City is quite nice.
i really don't think this is the new ram, just seems too different from the clad covered prototypes.. i really hope that isn't the new ram cause that looks awful
unless they have different headlights for different trim levels, i think that this is not the actual truck. which is hopefull true.
The diesel is the only reason to buy one of these trucks, imho. Hope the refinement is up, though. The last Cummins Dodge I drove sounded like a lawnmower thrown into a pool full of marbles. The average buyer doesn't like that.
It does look alot like a streamlined version of the 2003 truck with styling cues from the 1994 truck. However, it does look like a last gen Dakota exploded.
However, I too wonder what is going on with the rear fender and also, if you look at the front trim between the bumper and the grille, it looks warped due to poor craftsmanship or the truck may have gotten front-ended. The graphics do not look right at all.
The spyshot versions I saw under wraps made it appear to look more like the Nitro in the front End instead of this.
I'm hoping this is a photoshop manipulated image to throw people off the track of the real one. Look hard at the chrome at the grill, it doesn't look right somehow, might just be the lighting. My last five trucks have been Dodges, '76,'88,'93,'98 and 2001. If this 'photo' is the real deal, my next truck is going to be a Tundra. We will know for certain January 13th.
I'm hoping this is just a photoshop image to throw people off the trail of the real truck. Look at the chrome on the grill, it doesn't look correct to me somehow. If not, it is time to buy that Tundra.
all i gotta say its waaay better than the fords...better horse ,better looks,better all around... GO DODGE!
I am a chrysler dodge and jeep dealer and saw this vehicle at the Las Vegas dealer new product show and business meeting. This is the real deal. Note the grille kicks back in at the bottom side somewhat like the current charger. Dealers are pumped.
