Boston Airport Does Fire Drill On 9/11, Scares Shit Out Of Everyone

If you thought crass commercial tributes to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks were ill-advised, your jaw will be on the floor when you read what Boston's Logan International Airport did today: a fire drill, complete with actual smoke and flames. Ace move, folks!

CBS News reports that the Massachusetts Port Authority conducted the drill this morning using smoke and live fire on the runway. Needless to say, this completely scared the shit out of scores of travelers who were probably already nervous about flying on 9/11.

The airport promptly apologized on their Facebook page with the following:

Massport apologizes for conducting the fire training exercise and understands that it may have offended many of those touched by the events of Sept. 11. Safety and security is our top priority and constant vigilance and readiness is critical, but the exercise should not have taken place on the anniversary of 9/11. The airport community recognizes the day with moments of silence, a service in the chapel, and a wreath at the 9/11 memorial.

Oh, good. At least there was a wreath, right?

Gov. Deval Patrick rightfully criticized the move when speaking to reporters today as well. "It's just dumb. I mean the timing could not be worse," he said.

Some things can wait until 9/12, you know?
