Yesterday we learned how Gunther Holtorf has spent the past 23 years driving 500,000 miles in an '88 Mercedes G Wagen diesel. In what car would you do such a trip?

If we had to drive the equivalent of 20 times around the equator in one car, we'd pick a Lada. Rugged, durable, simple like you wouldn't believe and with parts available everywhere. That and it would finally avenge the death of our last great road trip at the hands of a Subaru Sumo.
