March Muscle Car Madness: Round Three, Day TwoS

We're right in the thick of March Muscle Car Madness, working through the Sweet Sixteen on our way to find the ultimate Muscle Car, of All Time, in the Universe, Forever. These past few rounds have been giving narrower wins as the contestants get winnowed down to the true icons of the segment, and the match-ups get better by the day. Like today.

By the way, you and I are pals, right, Internet? So I can level with you. I'm a bit hurt and confused at yesterday's results, specifically the loss of the AMC. I really thought the AMX had a shot here. Like it's not enough that Road Runner humiliated one of history's most determined and inventive coyotes, now the Runner kicks out the AMX. Oh well. Looks like I have a lot of growing up to do.

Aside from the Plymouth Road Runner's 59.7% victory, we have the Boss beating the GNX by 55.3%, the Camaro exterminated the Hornet by 61.6%, and the Superbird beat its nestmate by 57.3%. The people have spoken, and that's where we are. Let's keep going and get this narrowed down to the Elite Eight. Here's what we've got today:

Zombies: 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator vs. 1968 Olds Cutlass 442. Fancy pants stretched Mustang or a brute named after a sword? My gut says the Olds will edge this one out, but it could be close. Rod Rage: 1970 Buick GSX vs. 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. Incredibly, the Pontiac seems to be modernity's sole fighter left standing; 1972 is the next latest year still in play. Will the idea of something built in the Internet era be enough to carry the win? Classics: 1968 Pontiac GTO vs. 1966 Shelby Cobra GT350. Oh man. This is Godzilla vs. Mecha-Zilla or a clash of Titans or Kramer vs. Kramer or however you want to put it: two of the icons of the genus, head-to-head. This one will be brutal, and it's why we're here. Have at it. Drag Queens: This is another good match: 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 vs. 1968 Dodge Hemi Dart. Both cars certainly have their cultists, and on paper are worthy adversaries. This one's likely to be close and brutal, like the haircuts my ex-girlfriend used to give me.
