We remain frustrated by the persistence of the 25-year rule for EPA/DOT exemptions on car imports. However, slowly but surely a host of ultra-desirable cars are hitting the magic age and now avoid that regulatory silliness. Time for a midwinter escapist break: Given the funds, what 25-plus-year-old car would you import?

There's any number of monster exotics that would be a thrilling choice, but we missed out on a bunch of great mainstream vehicles as well. Apparently Peugeot decided that its rorty ultra-nimble 205 GTi didn't fit in with the company's traditional customer base of aging doctors and Columbo fans, so we were utterly deprived of one of the great cheap fun rides of the Eighties.
