Peter Brock Talks Us Through A Lap Of Bathurst As He Races

Here we see Peter "King of the Mountain" Brock as he manages to give a comprehensive run-down of how to take a lap of Australia's infamous Mount Panorama Circuit. Periodically he takes a break to, you know, laps some other cars and make his way up the field of one of the toughest endurance races in the world.

The race was the 1986 running of the Bathurst 1000, and the field looked very much like a slugfest of every car on a budget enthusiast's dream car shopping list. There were Alfa Romeo GTV6s, Toyota AE86s, BMW 635CSis, Volvo 240Ts, Benz 190s, Mustangs, a Mitsubishi Starion, Nissan Skylines, and naturally a good number of Holdens and Fords to round things out.

Brock came fifth in the race, but it was privateer and Bathurst regular Allan Grice who beat out the manic, turbo, no-spoilers R31 Skylines, seen here sliding through to pole position. Brock died in 2006 racing a Shelby Daytona replica, coincidentally based off a design by an American Peter Brock.
