It's dangerous to drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs, texting, sex, lapdogs, eating a sandwich or any combination of those things, and the people who make public service announcements want you to get that message in the worst way. What's the scariest driving PSA?
New Zealand's Transport Agency took an entirely different tack to get the message across. But the "scared straight" approach is still the go-to. And the realism keeps getting more and more brutal. Take the anti-texting-while-driving spot above, part of a 30-minute video shown in British high schools. The video, produced for $20,000 for the Gwent Police in South Wales, is perhaps the most chilling depiction of a road accident ever made for educational purposes. Did it work? Watch it and imagine how it could not work.
